are you sure those are part of the Tcase and do not get dropped in the box?
tabbed thrust washer - never seen that particular design in a tcase
steel washer - how thick?

Positive that they were in there when I took it apart. That's why it's perplexing. ;) I'll measure the steel washer, but it's maybe 1/16"

That little plate and bolt at the bottom right of the photo covers the top side breather opening on the inside of the transfer case - that's what it looks like anyhow.

Bingo! I remember it now. Not sure why I couldn't find the hole when I was looking. Must have been hiding there on the top of the inside of the front case half.

transfer oil slinger is the first one.

OK, any pics or description of exactly where it goes? I'm guessing on the rear output shaft somewhere, but not sure exactly where. It was NOT sandwiched between the bearings that are pressed onto the rear ouptut shaft, but that's about as much as I can deduce from my pile of parts.

if i could copy from the EPC then i could show you..
i will try and describe:
it seems to be between the oil seal output front and the output shaft retainer ...
odd, i thought i would have seen one of these on all the t/cases i have torn apart... interesting.

I think I understand..... It goes on the front output shaft, between the bearing/retainer and the front output oil seal, with the slingers facing rearward? Basically inside the front nose cone?

I suspect a trip to see beno and his EPC may be in order early next week. (who am I kidding, I'm sure I'll order a few bits too)

Either way, I think I'm pulling the T-case back apart to deal with it. Easy enough.

Dan

I don't recall the slinger in my teardown - going to look now...

Edit - nope, none in my pile of innards. Going to the exploded parts drawings now...

Edit - edit - Are there differences through production dates?

i haven't seen one before either

the one i looked up was for a 60 series and i have pulled dozens of them apart over the years and never seen that piece...

strange.

I have seen the slinger before. It was in a thread somewhere on MUD - prolly a post by Poser or something in the FAQ, can't recall exactly :hhmm:

the slinger goes on the front output shaft before the drive flange.

the tin tab is an oil baffle for the top breather

the shim goes on after the speedo drive gear and before the rear drive flange

Helps indeed. Guess what I'm doing tomorrow? Doing it right, that's what. ;)

OK, quick update....

I took the T-case apart and put it back together with all the parts this time. No pictures, because it looks just like it did before.

I also finished welding on the roll cage.

Also cut out some holes in the floor plates, to let the jumpseats bolt to the tub.

I then started with the primer. The cage itself will be painted just like the wheels, DP50LF grey primer with a clear coat.

Dad finished up the paint and clear.

Dad also painted the last little bits in blue just so that when the tub comes back from paint (supposed to be Monday or Tuesday) it can all go back together nice and quick.

Nice, eh?

I'll be there on Monday, then back to the shop Tuesday afternoon, and through Thursday, so if the tub comes back from paint..... There is a chance that this will be on the road by the end of the week, and be able to make it to CM11. Depends on how smoothly it goes back together. (so far, so good).

But, I need to attend to the motor mount. I've swapped this mount side to side, and it's pretty clear that something is wrong with this mount.

So I want to get a new one from Toyota. This is one we ordered from Radd (I think), and I just want to check that it's the same as a BJ-60 mount. I can get those from Toyota here pretty easily I think. So, is this the same as a BJ-60 mount, or is it specific to a BJ-70 or 40? I honestly don't remember what I ordered, because I just made motor mounts to match it...

Will be MUCH easier to swap it out now, as opposed to once the sheet metal goes back on.

if your not set of Toyota parts check these out , Good price on two

FJ40 Mounts / Engine Front Square - Set of 2

The two mounts on the engine now are new, aftermarket. I think we'll stick with Toyota mounts from now on. I suspect there's a manufacturing defect inside the bad mount. Also, I'm not sure if the F/2F mounts are the same as the 3B mounts.... Anyone know?

So, how'd you fit the cage in your oven for the powdercoat? :p

Looks great. Tell you dad to visit the painter, and be all "hovery" until they're done. That's what some of my English professors do when they assign in-class essays.

im in need of one engine mount, if you find some new ones ill work something out with you for the "good" one.

No need to hover. He picked me up at the airport this morning, and we figured we ought to drive by the painters and hover a bit. Literally as we were talking to the receptionist asking about it they called up and said it was ready.

I'm on the way into town to pick up the tub in just a few minutes....
:clap::clap::clap::clap::clap:

Hedgehog: you got it. I'll keep you posted on the motor mount situation.

We're on the way out the door to buy dinner for the crew coming to help us get this on the frame, but....

WOW that is beautiful. I cant wait to see this thing at the end of the week. :)

Still gathering parts for my rebuild. I've been spoiled with an extremely soft ride, my first car was 1992 mitsubishi pajero RHD 2.5 litre turbodiesel, 3 way adjustable suspension(push button) all the way around and in seat suspension. smoothest ride of my life.
Thats why i got the rancho 9000xl adjustable shocks for my 40. 450$ later... I cant wait to put 'em in :)

How did you get your axles powdercoated? you obviously didn't stuff em in your oven, did you use heaters or bring 'em to a shop?
