@Dashash do you have a link to the thread these pics are from?.....I'd like to see where the transfer lever ended up as it appears it would clash with the park brake lever when in H4.

Cheers!....And from the same thread, note the letter 'H' on the gearbox mount?

And a comparison between the H and F mount height.....Some gearbox to floor tunnel clearance could be found by using the 'F' mount, I believe the four cylinder 'B' series mount is lower again.

Oh wow, that's some good stuff. You might be on to something. From the looks, I bet an F series tranny mount might preclude the need to cut. I might guinea pig this depending on the cost of a motor mount..

Kevin used an FJ-60 cover in my 40 when we converted to the H55: the DSRTRDR is getting some TLC . . .

there is additional info on the H55 conversion in earlier pages of the thread

I see you're referring to the 60 series inspection cover, looks like a good job!.....Would be very handy if we could put all these links to info on 40 series 5 speed conversions on one page.:hmm:

Also if the transmission had the 40 series top cover or 60/70 series cover. The 60 series inspection is a good option for the 60/70 series top plate. On the 40 series a large portion would be under the heater. I have seen where the openings were removed and welded further up when using the 40 series top plate. Think that is mainly because the late 83/84 40 series inspection covers are to find here in the US. The inspection covers minic the top plate. The other raised section on plates is opposite, same with the inspection plates.

FYI there is a sticky on the H55F in the 40 series facts on the top of the main page 40/55 page. Once I finally have all the pieces and time will probably do a thread on mine. Long term and budget. Closing in on all the parts but some like a rear full floating axle with hand brake I've had for years. Have another semi floating with hand brakes for even longer.

Received the transfer case shell from SOR yesterday. In the process of building it up now. Could someobody please confirm that the engagement ring on the shift fork only engages the front output shaft this much when engaged? Shaft is pressed all of the way in and I am seeing the two detent wedges on the shifting fork, just seems slightly odd that the sleeve wouldn't fully engaged the inner gear on the inside. TIA.

Also, some pictures of the two cases side by side

Edit: Disregard my question. All is well. Case is almost installed.

Ok gents, transmission is in. Had to do MINIMAL cutting, and it appears I will be able to use my stock inspection cover (without hump). The key is the transmission mounts. "F" transmission mounts are a bit shorter than the "H" mounts and yield just enough clearance to be able to reuse a pre 10/82 transmission hump inspection plate. One minor cut must be made. Please see pictures.

Of course, the inspection cover holes for both shifters must be "moved" back about 3", but that really isn't too cosmic.

In your case perhaps the 'B' trans mount would have given that bit of extra clearance?... What cross-member did you use?

I believe you are correct. The "B" mount probably would have resulted in a good fit not requiring cutting...however, I think the "F" mount provides a nice compromise. The cut I made was tiny, and I would like to keep driveline angles/engine angle as close to stock as possible.

The above are 40 series cross-members, the early 60 series cross-member (below) has a similar profile to the 40 series 5 speed cross-member though needs some modifying to fit.

Is front driveshaft clearance an issue in the first place, though? I'll take my front ds and fit it tomorrow to see.
