Glad to hear your trans issue is being resolved. I was afraid you were going to have to make the trip to COTR with only 4 gears...like the rest of us plebes. Btw, I don't even have a riveter at all.

You can laugh at my absolute lack of off-road driving experience....
Bahahha. It's only a lack of experience until it's not
Just don't take Patch's lines right away![]()
Looks legit!Took a trip by the transmission shop today to hook up tech stream and run some tests. Nothing definitive yet, but I did go ahead and install my completed tailgate storage kit. I'm pleased with it. I may do some finessing in the design to move the holes slightly for easier fitment, but it is good to go as is.

I think I'm going to stick a piece of soft foam on either side of the gap filler panel just to elevate it 1/2" above the tailgate, and there shouldn't be any more issues with the panel hitting on the hinges, rivets, screws, or latches.
It does. The rivets and screws are super low profile, and the hinges can be changed to a lower profile. The biggest catch is actually the latch body. My thought is to just put some soft foam on the ends of the gap filler that won't scratch the paint, and just let it lift the gap filler enough not to catch.Looks legit!
Any catching on the Lexus gap flap ... mine catches on the mountain hatch cover every. single. time.![]()
Yeah that makes sense - instead of changing several things (all the hardware) just change the one thing (flap height)It does. No I haven't wrecked this one yet......so are you buying an Abrams? It would probably have a working transmission...
Congratulations! Really happy for you to have it running proper again! So to summarize the last month or two...
Had the trans issues. Put a low mileage trans in it, still had trans issues. Checked all the wiring, good. Had ecm "rebuilt", still issues. Sent my ECM to LJE in cornland, confirmed my ECM was effed in the A. Bought a used ECM (MUST match part numbers, they are not cross compatible), all is well now.
This is what makes a high quality product, high quality!Regarding my tailgate kits:
It's come to my attention that the LC tailgates differ from my LX in the the key cylinder directly interferes with the latch for the tailgate doors. To anyone who has purchased this kit from me who has a Toyota model, please send me a message directly. I will send you new doors cut to fit 2 latches offset instead of the single latch centered. I want this product to be correct for anyone using it, so it will be a no cost revision to you. I apologize for the inconvenience to those who have run in to this issue but I'm committed to getting it rectified.
How about small metal "ramps" directly in front of the places where the flap catches? Just enough to lift the flap over the obstruction -- that way it will still lay flat when opened all the way.Honestly I think I'm just gonna go to depot and grab some 3/4" self stick insulation foam, and cut a little square that fits in to one of the little nooks on the bottom side of the flap. Do that in 3-4 places along the filler panel and hopefully call it a day.
I considered this, but for those who paint or powder coat their kits, that plastic rubbing the ramp each time the gate is opened or closed would eventually wear away the finish. For those who carpet the kit, the hardware catching is probably not going to be an issue. The foam has been in use in my truck and honestly, it's functionally perfect. I'll find a black material to replace the white foam I've been sending out but otherwise I wouldn't change it. Additionally, I'd have to either require the buyers to make their own bend, or I do it myself and lose the ability to flat-pack ship it.How about small metal "ramps" directly in front of the places where the flap catches?
