Jerry can holder

Michael,
The measurement, if I understand your question is 11 1/16", that is center of lower bolt hole on upper braket to center of upper bolt hole of lower bracket.
and hear is a picture of the jerry can holder, I have two that mount on the side.

Let me know if that is not the correct measurement.
Gary

Can you post a pic.with them, like to see how they are made.
Like your steeringwheel cover btw.

I have one more question, I see that you have the mounting holes for the original spare carrier, can you messure thr distance between the upper and lower bracket?
Center lower bolt hole of upper bracket to center upper bolt hole of lower bracket.
Mine doesn't fit like it should and I am trying to find out what the problem is.

Thanks,

I added a picture, think I have to shorten the bracket.
I have some more to do before even getting near where you are.

Will your gas can brackets fit with the fender flares?

Your build getting better all the time keep us in the loop.

Michael,
My tire carrier is the box frame style not the tube frame like yours. I am not aware of any difference but there may be a difference.

water pump

I cranked her up last night, after figuring out that I had the fuel lines switched and it was trying to pull fuel from an empty aux tank, I got it running. Well, I had a squeal and the temp got high, so I shut it down thinking the thermostat stuck since the radiator was cool and the engine heat was high. I pulled the t'stat and tested it. It opened at 180 degrees water temp.

I am assuming now that the t'stat is good that the new water pump I installed is bad. So I will take it off and get another one ordered. :whoops:
I guess if this is the only problem I have, I can say things have gone well with the rebuild.

intake leak

Well, I have been taking one step forward and two steps back. the intake manifold leaked and I could not get her to run smoothly. I also had a leak at the carb gasket. So I ordered some new gaskets.
My original intake gasket was the Fel-Pro. I had read good things about the Fel-Pro, but I could not get it to seal. I used just one gasket and no goo. So I orderd the RemFlex gasket.
I also dropped the intake and exhaust at the machine shop to be surfaced. They looked at the way the intake is put together and after moving their heads around and a few mummbled words under their breath they said they would try to smooth it out.
Any tricks to that?
Here is a picture of the intake / exhaust after it was put back together.
is there any merit to loosening the bolts that hold the two intakes together and then bolt it to the head and then tighten the bolts holding the two together???

Absolutely. Dry fit it without the gasket first, snug to the head, and then tighten the two manifolds together.

results

OK, got the intake /exhaust back this afternoon,
here is a picture of the results

Got the new RemFlex gasket on and finally got the intake lined up on the studs. got it torqued down to 18 ft lbs as specified by Rem Flex.
mounted the carb and had a stud strip out of the intake when tightening it down.
So, Heli Coil time

Removed the stud
Drilled the hole out to spec of the Heli coil
tapped the hole
inserted the heli coil insert
broke off the tang
put red loc tite on the stud.
put the stud back in and tightened it up.

So, after that was completed I put the carb on connected all lines and chock, and idle solinoid.
Fired it up, adjusted the timing just a little, adjusted the carb just a little and
it was smooth at 675 RPM timing was steady, vacuum was 16 lbs.
So tommorrow I will load it up on the trailer and off to the muffler shop for new pipes and muffler.

Thanks

Thanks for the comments, Yep it is coming together.

Took it to the muffler shop this morning on my trialer, I actually drove it out of the garage,:steer:.
Waited on the guy to open up from 7:20 to 8:50. no show, and I had to get to work.
so, I will take it back this afternoon if I get the time.

testing testing 123

worked on hooking up the power steering this morning, which required a trip to the NAPA store for a lot of 5 belts to make sure I had one that would work.
I do not have the correct pulley yet but I had a GM pulley that will work till I get either a Volvo or some other pulley.
hooked up the vacuum line to the brake booster,
so the yard run was to find out if the brakes were OK? does the power steering work?, and to see how stiff it really was.

Yep, it is stiff.
The brakes really work well
and yes I had a leak in the power steering connection to the gear box.

to solve the power steering connection leak at the steering head, I had to order two of the "S Port Seat" from JT Outfitters, OK the only place I could find them, so I caved in and bought from them again.

update

making some headway. my painter has been like molasses in December. I still do not have the hard top painted.
I got new BFG 33x10.5x15 mounted on Friday. I went with the set of stock steel wheels and my hub caps with blackwalls out. Got the AC charged up and blowing cold. like it would work well with the top off.

Here are some details on the under hood. The OEM wire ties that push into a hole in the inner fendor were shot. I found an exact match at CarPak. A bag of 50 for about 20 bucks. I got the original fender id plate put back in place. I have not mounted the power steering cooler coil yet so that is why there is extra hose from the power steering gear box to the pump.
One of the biggest challenges in the whole rebuild has been the power steering pulley and the correct belt.
I purchased a pulley from Iron Pig and after about 5 belts that were 17mm wide I got one that would work.

his rebuild is a father son project for his son's first ride.
Congrats to him. Great guy.
