Remember you will be winching a fully loaded vehicle in less than optimal condition.Temperature and humidity is super high so a 12000 pound winch should be the minimum.Most guys I know in Central America are running the Warn 16.5 thermo winch on there bigger rigs because all the rest fails after a while.If you really want to get to the remote mountain villages you better be prepared.If you stay in populated areas with other vehicles around you can put a 9.5 on it and use a snatchblok and if it fails start walking until you find someone to set you free

Ok, well that's a bummer cost wise but I def don't want to burn one out right as I need it!

BTW I had an aftermarket A/C installed in my 40 in Panama and it costed me less then a 1000$ everything brand new using parts they have overthere so no problems if something fails.

EDIT: If there's anything I should get from there I might get it on this Dec. trip and bring it back on the plane and install it here....i.e. tires, rims, AC, etc. Suggestions are welcome!

This. Lots of people are having good luck with the Harbor Freight Badlands 12000 lb winch. I'm tempted but the stigma is still there for me. Goes on sale for $299 all the time.

Yeah there are some great winches out there, but lots them would be super hard to get parts for in Honduras when they break.

The conditions are very different over there and the heat in combination with the moisture guarantees you to destroy your cheap winch in no time.Trust me I have been there and seen them all.Best winch would be to find a pto winch for the 60 or to make a winch cradle and keep the winch most time out of the elements and the river crossings.I used a Warn 9.5 XP for 3 years there and a buddy of mine is using it still now.

Daniel contact Tapage here on Mud and ask him what the new (2 years ago ) winch is that he put on his 60 series called "Tencha" I believe he has a 16.5 or 14 K winch that was cheaper then warn and still has parts available.

Anyways whatever part you will need like R&P,reinforced birfield,winch or other accessories parts you will have to mailorder it from here.There are not many parts available there and the ones that have em are far to expensive!

I think best bang for your buck is a diamond rax roof rack if you are not building your own. If you are, buy their bull dog gutter mounts!

Don't forget to extend your breather lines and keep some pinion seals/nuts on hand...

Yes sir, I've seen those steelies and they look good on your 60! I'm still wanting to run split rims as does a majority of the rigs I see in HN, but those others would be great alternatives. Thank you for the link!

The 4x4 labs bumpers are sweet for sure. I've welded one together for another MUD member and I was impressed with the quality. I'll check out those mounts as well.

I'm leaning towards building as much as I can so I keep cost down since everything to get us down there is going to cost money.

Winch question...

I know several of you are saying go with a 15k lb winch, but to save money we would love to use our current winch Warn XD9000. If I did my math right the BJ weight is around 5360ish and add 1000lbs for bumpers, people, etc. = 6,360 and x that by 1.5 = 9,554 and that puts us just 500ish above winch capability. If we use a snatch block we get double the pull power, will it work? Or will this just burn up the winch to fast? Thanks!

Not exactly needed for the build but other items you should have - Factory Service Manuals (FSM). The Body and Chassis manual, the engine manual for the 3B, and maybe not necessary but Toyota also has one specifically for the H55F.

Anyone know where I can get all of these manuals? I've looked online and I don't see a one stop shop, is that the case? Thank you!

So here's what happen to the window: we hit a super large bump at 60mph causing my giant and heavy Yeti cooler to bounce up and smash into the center of the window and thus shattering it! Here's a pic after I put tape on it so all the glass wouldn't fall out.

Oh the memories! I did that to the rear hatch window after owning the truck only a very short time...not as short as you, though, lol.
