Interesting on all the failure(s).
I too had a front fail at >10,000 miles, 99% on-road use, just out of warranty- I reached out to Fox, they offered zero help. Sonny at Down South gave me a good deal on a replacement, though....
Curious if the front failures you both experienced were on the passenger side?
C

Another FR (passenger) failure of a Fox 2.0 IFP here. On the vehicle for ~18 months and ~30k mikes, no hard wheeling. Out of warranty and did not try contacting Fox about what I felt was premature failure.

I replaced both fronts with cheap Pro-Comps in December until I could get them rebuilt. I rebuilt the bad one myself last week and will be re-installing them this weekend. Curious to see if I get another FR failure. My rears are still OK so far.

Wow that is crazy they failed that quick. Wonder if the build/parts quality compared to other models is significantly different. I've got almost 60k on my front fox 2.0 RR's and I've never changed the fluid or done seals other than a wear band one time during a revalve. (I think fox spec's rebuilding these on a much shorter interval but its still just working).

I'd be very interested in any writeup, pics, or info you can provide on the rebuild process.

Or even good resources for that info.

I'm assuming my IFPs will need rebuild at some point

I did take pics and plan on doing a write-up, just haven't had time yet.

The same thing just happened for me. My front right blew out and the shocks are only 12 months old. Piles of junk

Anyone change the IFPs valving yet? I wouldn't mind them being firmer.

I've had mine for about a year, about 18k road miles on them and about 1k off-road. Paired with OME heavies f & r. Loaded up I know my truck is over 7000 lbs. and more high speed dampening would be nice while driving through the desert. I know I should to move to remote reservoirs but have a difficult time justifying the price.

My front failure was RHD driver's side, so passenger side for you.

Sorry, slight hijack-
FWIW- may shed some light on these Fox failures
Years ago I had multiple failures (3 total) of the front, (US) passenger side, Old Man Emu LTR shock (LTR's were ARB's "so called" high end reservoir shocks) ARB came to the conclusion that the "premature" failures were caused by excessive heat, most likely from the exhaust y-pipe on my 1FZ & its proximity to the inverted shock body/remote reservoir. Over mounting reservoirs and having to recharge nitrogen every few months, not to mention $$, the Fox IFP fit the bill, less than 10,000 miles, as stated previous, the Fox failed, too!
I honestly felt ARB had no clue what was going on, but now feel there may have been some validity to their assessment. (Granted, I haven't heard of any other inverted body shocks prematurely failing, I.E King, Icon, Radflo, etc...)
Not sure if this applies to IanB, whereas I'm not familiar with the 1HD / 1HZ exhaust configuration.
Note- ARB's customer service was excellent, Fox on the other hand, wasn't.....

1HD-T / 1HZ have the exhaust on the same pass side ( LHD ) as 1FZ ... but significantly lower exhaust temps .. ( if stock )

I had a peek at mine last night, exhaust is 8-10" from the shock body, I can't see it being related in my case.

oddly enough, it was the passenger side... but the rebuilt has held fine.

It's rather disappointing that these high end shocks can't go a long time w/o rebuilds. Granted, this process isn't rocket science and most of us can DIY them but still, you pay a hefty penny for these things.

The term " hi end " shock it's relative these days . . I mean 2K shock = hi end .. IMHO still I would like to see more reliability out of my few bucks I paid for mines .. but I would not considere them hi end shocks.

All I know is - if mine go again, I'm getting Nitro Chargers. But for now I'm happy.

Does Fox make a 2.5 or 3.0 size shock for us? If so, those would probably handle the heat better.

You should be able to adapt one of there 2.5 units to fit. For the cost, I would just buy a resi that was already setup for an 80.

For a long time I dicked around with Bilstein 7100s remote res shocks. Can't count how many times I've revalved them because I was never really happy with the performance. This is a science and w/o the correct knowledge and a shock dyno, might as well throw darts. I now have a stunning collection of discs, N2 refill system and a giant spreadsheet of various configs with my comments. Two or so years ago I switched to OME Sport shocks and haven't looked back.

i ran my fox 2.0s for about six months. when i ordered them, i told southwest it was a heavily laden 80 with a 300lbs on the roof...they were down right scary. a tad better than no shocks at all. i had failure on left rear, so not near the exhaust, within two months. so not impressed. i will try them again when i get the fzj55 done, maybe they'll be less disappointing on that.

Fox is really only good for slightly heavier than stock shocks. If you are that heavily laden then you should go with OME shocks because that's what they are designed for.

i kind of thought that's why you told them your weight. so they could valve them correctly. and i did tell them over 7k lbs. and still, they sucked. my ome's were ancient and one literally fell apart and they were 100x better than the fox shocks, so i was thrilled to buy adam tolmans used omes to replace my fox shocks.

then i went slinky
