Hi all, Hoping someone out there has a solution. I have a 97’ and had an Icon Stage 3 lift installed 5 years ago. It looks like the suspension shop didn’t reuse the factory shock plate retainers. The upper stem bushings above the plates on each shock are torn up. It looks like all the bushings were installed directly against the plates. The shock stems are now moving/rattling within the plates. Dealer or Partsouq hasn’t been much help with identifying the specific retainer part numbers or availability. Does anyone know if I can source the individual factory retainers and have part numbers? I sourced new bushing kits from Icon and if there is no availability for the factory retainers I suppose I could use the old Icon bushing spacer against the plates but don’t imagine it would seat very well. Anyone have another suggestion or solution if the retainers aren’t available? Thanks.

You are a god! Thank you! I’ve been to three dealerships here in San Diego and none have been able to help. Last dealer was telling me that my vin doesn’t even show I have the shock plates. Thanks again for being such a resource to our community!

Thanks again. Just for my clarification, the part numbers are for the shock plates. I just need the retainer/washers that seat into those plates. Do I have to buy new plates to get the retainers/washers or can I source the retainers/washers individually? I apologize in advance for my ignorance and the double postings.

Those come with the shocks 😉

Ahhhh.. Those are bushing locating washers.

The part numbers I provided you are the actual palindrome- like thick metal plates that get bolted to the frame of the truck and that the top of the shock goes through.

You want locating washers and retainers:

Retainers/washers:

90948-02144 (each shock will get 2)
90948-02141 (each shock will get 1)

So, you'd need 4 of the first part number and 2 of the second part number to do two rear shocks of an 80 series.

So do you think the Icon upper stem bushings are supposed to be installed directly against the plates without using any retainer/washers? It seems like no retainer between the bushings and shock plate leaves a slight gap that results in excessive strain on the bushings. I don’t do Rubicon type crawln but I do fairly aggressive wheeln. I was hoping to get a little more life out of the bushings.

Got it! Thanks for the clarification. Each of the Icon replacement bushing sets comes with 2 of the 90948-02141 type washers along with 2 bushings and a nut. So I just need to source 1 each of the 90948-02141 retainer type washer for each side that would sandwich between the lower of the stem bushing and under the shock plate. Guess there is no retainer/washer that fits between the upper stem bushing and against the top side of the shock plate? Thanks again to you both!

I don’t have any experience with Icon shocks. I’d recommend contacting them to ascertain exactly how their bushing retainer setup is functionalized.

Looking at the pic, I don’t see anything wrong other than the washer things under the bushings being upside down. Maybe I’m misunderstanding though.

Not saying it’s right or wrong but the bushing setup typically matches with the shocks installed. OEM rear upper hardware has a second metal washer to sandwich the bushing and locate the shock.

Interesting, so Dobinson follows the stock setup and uses a retainer below the shock plate. I wonder if Icon missed that peculiar specification to the 80 series when they designed the stem bushing setup for our rigs. May be best to add the stock locating washer 90948-02141 under the shock plate between the lower stem bushing?

Most likely the Icon bushings won’t mate up with the Toyota washer is my guess. They are a harder probably poly bushing vs rubber OEM. If they’ve been on for 5 years I’d buy new bushings and replace and move on.
