Like the title says I am considering swapping the 2f in my truck for an om606 as I am attracted to the lack of electronics, power increase, lack of a carburator to screw with, and just a diesel in general. This is my current spread sheet with parts: Link
Having done a bit of research on the topic I have come across several examples, one being CAtuned Offroad @Madmaxs, but all seem to have fabricated their own adapter kits; this is not something I have any place doing. However, DieselPumpUK offers an adapter kit for an h55 in a bj73. My understanding is that this requires a different bellhousing, for a 2h instead of the 2f. Is that correct? Does anyone else have any experience hooking an om606 to a h55?

Already have, that is the CAtuned truck I mentioned above. Good info, but he built his own adapter.

I've looked at this before for a customer. 2H and 3B are the same pattern to engine and trans. They designed off a 3B for bellhousing if memory serves from an email I sent to verify.

So you will need a 2H/3B bell. Make sure to verify the starter design they used as well as they were clocked slightly different over the 3B years. Ask if they have the starter or part number that works with their kit.

I'm looking at the 606 and TR4050 for my personal Scout II project now with many parts from DPUK

That is super helpful, thanks!

I’m doing this swap as well. Shoot Luke an email about it if you want but I sent him a 3F bell housing, shift fork, throwout bearing and collar and clutch slave to tweak his current H55/BJ73 adapter to work with that setup.
Awesome, that would make my life a lot easier instead of sourcing all the 3b parts.

You can also stack adapters by taking a H55F to SBC bellhousing and then use a Chevy to OM606 adapter. I think this is basically what the CAtuned guy did.
Basically mate one of these to one of these.

You would still have to figure out what clutch components to use and I'm not completely sure what else would be involved, and it would probably be more expensive unless you can find used adapters.

I'm very interested in this swap if you go through with it. I have a 1987 300SDL with the OM603 in it and it's a wonderful car. I watched a OM606 powered 80 on one-tons and 37"s haul a$$ up the mountain at Windrock and it was not lacking for power or torque.

Doomsday Diesel does make adapters for the A442F to the OM606 so with enough interest he may make a H55F to OM606 adapter.

You will also need to convert the OM606 to a OM603 injection pump for it to be fully mechanical.

If you do this I would love to see the truck when it's done, I'm just a bit south of you in the Auburn area.

There's also this thread The Mercruiser.

The easier thing would probably be to get a B series Bellhousing from Australia or Canada and use the DPUK kit. But I believe the input shafts are different between H55Fs for F engines and B engine (someone correct me if I'm wrong) so that may cause issues with that kit.

Other options include running the dpumpuk adpated tr4050 with a cruiser transfercase adapter
or running a 70 series r151 these already fit the slipt-case and i think these are available new from your dealer. Then use 5vz bell housing to a doomsday adapter

This is what I've done. The one on top is out of a Fj62, the bottom one is a 722.6 Mercedes 5 speed with a Toyota transfer case that bolts up to my Om606.
722.6 vs OEM.jpg

The plan is a om606 from benzInjection with a turned up 603 pump and hx30w. That is interesting stacking adapters like that, not sure I want to have to do actually engineering on that side of things to get it working right. This is already an ambitious project for me without having to do all that. You are welcome to come up and see it if I end up doing it. I have seen the Mercruiser, super cool! I believe there is a different spline from what I have read.

My issue with that is that this h55 is only 3 years old so I definitely don't want to swap trannies too. Thanks for the info tho!

Super cool, if I was not a manual snob that would probably be the way to go. Did you stack the radiatior, intercooler, and oil cooler all in front of each other? That is the one packaging concern I have.

I hear you about the manual transmission, I do have an h55f behind an other Mercedes turbo diesel in my FJ40 and I love it.
