I don’t see him much these days but the guy I bought my Colt off used to do turbo installs on land cruisers back in the day.

That turbo setup is wild even by my standards.. What carb is that??

The pane parts are easy, but the sidedraft carb is wonky.. Stromberg???
Sure is a Stromberg.

I think I've decided to call this: Project Karma.
Bought this Sight Unseen and found out it came with these beauties.
Factory AC.
Factory Power Steering.
Factory Radio.
All working and operating.

Just searched on this last week. Mud member Mace has had a similar setup on his for like 15 years now. They call it “draw through” because the fuel mixes with the air before the turbo, then goes through the turbo and intake to the cylinders. Kinda strange, but was an aftermarket option that the Aussies came up with.

I don't know about mixing the fuel and air pre-turbo. I would think that would make for some coating on the turbo impeller?

I’ve always thought it was odd, but that’s how it works, at least by my understanding. I know you’d never want that charge getting ignited outside of the plumbing.

Right? I was thinking the same! There is a lot of heat in those housings...

Non issue.. :)

Draw through was the common deal back in the day, gotta remember the BS associated with having the carb in a pressurized box is a lot.

Karma indeed, score!

Really? Never heard much about any of that with the domestics. Cubes and compression was the name of the game back it the Detroit days. I can’t think of anything domestic that ran a turbo on a gas engine. Took em until even the eighties before they really started making them common on commercial diesel trucks.

Looking through a few photos from the forum. Can anybody fill me in if the AC Button is the factory one? Barn Doors.
FJ55s with Tailgate will have there Rear Window Mechanism switch in that position from what I can gather.

It doesn’t have the look of 70’s Japanese design, but I’ve not seen a factory sw.

Update on the Project.
Drove over 1850km from Sydney to Melbourne and Back (1149.537miles) over the weekend to unite the pigs together.
All three looking great.

I got the chance to inspect the cars a bit closer.
Turboed 2F
Gas Conversion with Tank and Mechanism.
Turbo is in good condition, but the manifold need to be thrown away.
Came with 33x10.5/r15 Globe Wheels with good tread.
Came with 60 Disc Brakes in the Front.
60 Power Steering.
5 speed gearbox.
Airconditioning. - No details to see if it was factory or not.
Good doors and some savable panels but over all rusty.

CFA Cab.
Very rust free cab besides the floor pan.
Visor.
Door Cards.
GREAT DASHPAD AND CLUSTER
Badges and all lights.

After looking at all the rust and parts usable it seems like the Brown/White FJ55V will be the body we'll stick with for this project.

"I can’t think of anything domestic that ran a turbo on a gas engine."

My '63 Corvair Spyder comes to mind. Offered by GM from '62 on during the "Unsafe at any speed" era.

80s tbird had a turbo 4 cylinder

That a Blue Ford behind wood pile?

It's an old Holden HQ One-Tonner ute. Straight 6 Petrol with Bench Seat we use as our water/farm truck

Found of the old gas system still does work.
Another part I can do research on for how it works.
