I had to get a rear bumper made locally for my 66 LV, and just wanted to see if anybody else is interested in one while we're at it. Photos attached. Pricing he said $750 for the bumper and the mounts, unpainted. I can check on cost to powder coat if anybody wanted that too. I have a feeling everybody that needs a bumper already has one (?), but wanted to throw it out there in case there's someone else anxious for one.

To be clear, I'm not the one making them it's a local shop here in Phoenix and the pricing is just what they quoted me. If someone wanted just the mounts, or just the bumper I can check on pricing those separately too.

I Know this thread is nearing a year old, but did you guys ever have any of the brackets made? If not, do you have drawings with dimensions? I've built a bumper, but haven't started on brackets yet. Thanks!

Chuck

I moved this to the 45 section but can’t seem to find the link. The shop that made these has gotten really backed up, I can’t get them to really do anything for me anymore. So I’ve taken a lot of my work elsewhere. For this project specifically unfortunately the best I can do is try to get some photos and drawings together at some point. My LV is in the shop for some upgrades so it might be a month or two before I could get to that, once I have it back home.

Sorry guys. COVID seems to have actually been pretty good for restoration and fabricator shops, they don’t seem to like to get one-off stuff done unless it’s part of a bigger project now that they’re all busy.

It doesn't look like I'm local to any of you guys, but if anyone wants to go through the hassle of getting me drawings or parts to reverse engineer, I would be happy to build a few of these. I recently opened my own fabrication shop, and could get started on them almost immediately.

That’s exactly what I think we probably need - a mudder that can make them! I won’t have my LV back home until sometime in January but it was a copy of @tahoe40/45 anyway so maybe he can get dimensions a little quicker? If not, I’m happy to get you a drawing sometime next month.

@Splangy tagging you in case someone takes this on, I know you were looking for a rear LV bumper

I could probably make one myself if I had dimensions. There’s a local metal shop who’s done other large brake work for me and could probably make me a u-channel with the appropriate dimensions for me to work from.

I’d also love to see some drawings/dimensions of the brackets.

I've started down the path of making my own bumper and so far am happy with the progress. I can fab the brackets too, I was just hoping to ease the process a little.

You guys are great and I appreciate the talent and dedication of you all.

Here's what I have so far... 1/8" steel formed into 1-1/2" x 3-1/2" channel. I'm working on the ends now. So far, so good:

They're definitely not complicated, for the DIYer it would be easy to offer a WIY version to save a few bucks.

@Chuckha62 looks great! Doing the radius on the end by hand is tedious, but rewarding to see it watch it come out nice and clean.

The brackets were the toughest part to figure out, I spent a lot of hours looking at others online until I saw @tahoe40/45 's in person a couple years back and thought "thats the ticket". They tuck up under the body and mount to the frame nicely but keep the bumper fairly close to the body without being too close. We were also working with the existing bolt pattern on the chassis, which I'm not 100% sure was from factory so that may vary from cruiser to cruiser.

The bumper itself is very simple, I had them put more of a curve around the ends on mine to go a little bit around the radius of the rear quarters but I really don't know what was "correct" or not. Happy with how it turned out though and @Chuckha62 yours is looking great!

I will get some drawings/dimensions together in January when I've got my LV back, unless I can somehow run over to the shop one day - tough to get out of the house these days with the kids doing school from home :(

Thanks to @scoobiedubes for getting some measurements, I was able to get a prototype set of brackets put together.
I have to build some Christmas presents tomorrow, then onto the bumper!

wow! that was fast! those look great, only thing it's missing is there is a little "step" on those two identical parallel pieces to help it clear the body. I'm not sure if every LV would need that, but its about a 1/4" step. Alternatively you could probably just eliminate the step and make those pieces 1/4" shorter to simplify it.

I appreciate anything you guys are willing to share in terms of measured drawings. Also, I may just see about curling mine in towards the body a little at the corners, too. The brackets you have posted look nearly exactly like the mounts on my frame, so maybe they are consistent.
