Can i get some overall opinions on fj45's vs fj40's besides the fact that they are hard to find and you pay for them , thanks

Sometimes I use a 45 top on my 40 (I have both tops) and I notice how confined the 45 cab is every time I use it. I actually use the 45 most because of the extreme difference in driver visability. The 45 is almost like running no top at all. It is also so much lighter not only lowers my CG but I can put it on or off by my self in a matter of minutes. As for the rest of the rig, JF is right, Wheelbase.

a 45 in good shape will cost more than a 40 in the same shape
you cant fit a whole lot in the back of a 40.
are you talking truck or wagon? the 45 came in both

A few parts for 45's, most notable brake components are also quite pricey.
If there was one around other than the $16K frame off for sale around here I would buy it just about no matter what. I absolutely love the way the 45's look.

i like my fj45 short wheelbase pick up.. I have used it as a DD for 10 years.. but there isnt any room in one.. barely fits 2 adults.. and if your tall forget it.. mine has the seats all the way back and they still sit you straight up and down and the steering column was shortened and tilted up when i put the saginaw PS in and its still not roomy.. I had a 45 wagon but sold it years ago.. it would have been nice to have now..

there are some rare parts but its a nice truck

One can get a very good condition 1982-1984 FJ45 lwb (116" wheel base) here for about $6000. One can even find FJ75's from about 1993 for $8500. But FJ40's are rare and go for around $10000. :-\

Ok thanks guys, i'm sorry i failed to mentions which 45's i was talking about. i mainly mean swb and lwb trucks as they are most common of the 45's - at least from what i've seen that is the case. i would a 45 truck with a little lift, that would be sweet. but dont have much money, a 55 would be nice, but for now my 40 will sufice(*)

i'm a little confused, what exactly do you mean by the real thing and building my own. if i can sell my 40 for a decent price and i have some money on hand i would love to look for a 45 swb truck with minimal rust and that is solid running, lifts, winches and such can be added later. thanks

Which 45? there are 4 versions we got in the US. the 45 wagon, the 45 short bed with NON removable top, the 45 short bed WITH removable top, and they 45 long bed(all had removable tops)

The non revmovalbe top 45 has less room inside(depth) than the removable top 45's.

Besides the cab and bed they are the same as a 40.

Beds and tailgates are VERY hard to find in good shape, if you find em it aint gonna be cheap. You can get repo cabs from SOR in fibreglass, most of the stock tops i have seen have some rot.

Any US spec 45 that is still stock needs a few things, toss the front end and replace it with a 40 disc front or use a 69+ drum front and add mini truck brakes, also a booster and master are needed. Replace the steering with later toy PS or saginaw. Toss 3 speed trany and replace with 4 speed or SM or 5 speed or ? Prolly toss the f motor and go 2f or ?

I'm 6" 240lbs and have no issues with the room in the cab.

Prices on 45's have drop alot inthe last few years BTW.

Doors can be upgraded to 75+ but you loose some interior room.

an OME suspension is not cheap for a 45 lwb, the rear springs are HUGE,but OME on a 45 makes for a nice ride.

45 LWB also came into canada up till 1980, the 75+ had a FF rear end, but still hade drum front even though 40's had gone disc.

Someone mentioned brakes as being spendy....I dont think so, so I'm cunfused

Can get repo beds and tubs(for long bed only) from Aquala, but IMOP the beds don't look right.

I love my fj45 LWB, its runs a 2f, disc front, FF rear w/ARB, OME suspension, SR, 35's, still has the 3 on the tree and manual steering....these will be changed someday. but it's a blast to drive.

Dear land pimp.

Definatley the kind of info i was looking for, thanks alot, love the 45 when it was finished. the kind of 45 i would imagine having is very similar to that either swb or long, doesnt matter to much. all i'd do is paint it maybe and od white rims, but thats minor stuff, nevertheless, very nice, also i love the white 80 in the background, we have a white 94 and i would hope to see it look like that someday, but its my moms so.....fat chance, and i'm only 17 and have a part time job serving ice cream so a 45 may be little out of my league... but one thing i am interested in, how much do you think a 45 equivilant to yours would go for. it is basically what i would buy. thanks alot

Oh, I'm not finished the body needs to be done as well as the trany and PS.

I picked it up(as on the trailer) for 4k, had a FF rear, 77 2f and it ran and drove, within a month I upgraded the rest, bout 5k of stuff. No clue what it would be worth, less than I have in it I suppose, but I don't care I had wanted a 45 sense I was 16.....was 36 before I got one.

the white 80 was my 1st Cruiser, got it 8 years ago, mom drives a 97 fzj80 :) Connie my girlfriend drive my 1990 fj62.....and if she's lucky the mustard fj40

Got a few more Cruisers as well ;)

Can someone tell me if the seats from a 63 FJ45 are the same as the seats in a 66 FJ40. Thank you.

close but not the same I believe. the 40 will have the tool box under the DS seat, the 45 has no provision for lifting the seat. the PS bench has a angle cut for the fuel filler. I would think they would swap with some mods however.

I do know the SOR seat covers are different for a 45 and 40 bench seat(s)

long or short bed might also make a difference.....but I don't know.

I'll take a look at my stock 65 fj40 tonight to get a better idea.
