So this showed up at the shop a year or two ago. The owners story was that: "Toyota built 3 of them so that Toyota Execs could tour Australia."

I dont have any vin info at the house but I think he called it a HJ47. It was a late model truck (79 or newer, square bezel etc.)

Discuss....

No way Toyota built that, just look at the rear body work, very sloppy to say the least. Looks almost like the metal was riveted on?? Much more likely it was a custom job done once the HJ47 arrived in Australia.

Very early on many of the FJ25s that where shipped to Australia were sent as bare chassis from the firewall back and then coach builders in Australia finished them out in custom configurations.... I imagine the is a similar type creation:meh:

Well guys, turned out to good to be true... I went ad looked at the "FJ44" tonight and it was 2 fj40s put together. It was about 2-3 feet wider than a normal cruiser and more of a "hack job". Not the right project for me.

The guy said that his phone was ringing off the hook from people all across the country...probably because I posted it on this website.

I'm glad he was an honest man and kept to his word of holding it for me, it's sad to think that people on here would try to "steel" my good find. Good luck to you all (and whoever is next in line)

That is Icon's 4 door FJ44, They must have used a 66 FJ40 for the upgraded body panels. I think that's what they do with them anyway?

I think Icon just source their body panels from Aqualu. Aqualu manufactures a 4 door FJ tub. I thought that Icon only retained the VIN plate or something. Just enough to keep it desmogged. I guess this "FJ44" is just an Icon name thing then.

That the original pic is an Icon

I don't think anyone doubted you rather everyone knew it was an ICON the OP even stated he knew that was a picture of an ICON he was just using it for a reference.

regardless I am not trying to make a big deal or anything like that, just explaining why I was confused by your original commment

Two pages in, and no one has posted any pics of actual 44s...or did I miss it?? Here are two real 44s below.

The one in the first post of this thread is not a real 44. I don't even like the one in the first post...but that is just my personal opinion.

That said, I'd love to have a real 44, like either the red one, or blue one below...

I'm familiar with the diesel versions (BJ44 and BJ46) from the Japanese domestic market but I've never noticed any petrol-equivalent models (FJ44 and FJ46)..

(Not that I've ever been looking for them.)

Gas MWB 40 series trucks were finished in 1979. The 1980 MY had diesel engines only. Therefore you will see lots of FJ43s and lots of BJ44 and BJ46s but no BJ43s or FJ44s.

I love my BJ44 to death and will never replace it. I really don't like the look of the icon FJ44 since it looks like a hummer and a JK Jeep had an illegitimate child.

Those both have the exhaust exit on the left side like BJ44's.
