Ahahahahaha, I was waiting for that! I'm going to have a fight with the wife if I try to retake the garage! Luckily, I live in sunny San Diego and don't have to worry about being outdoors as much as others

3 decades in the same FJ40
Mines in the garage most of the time too but I did invest in a "big cut" cruiser cover from cool cruisers of Texas a couple of years ago. About $100 I think. Works great and fits well. From what I've heard, jeep ones are too small for a 40 series.

I have one that I take with me when I travel without the top on. Don't know who made it; bought it second hand from someone here on Mud ages ago. Folds up pretty small, easy to put on, has some tie-down straps but I don't usually need/use them, keeps the inside relatively dry when parked.

The one I bought for the FJ Cruiser fits the 40 just fine.
I’ve gone through 2 jeep covers. Both fit fine. I’m also in Southern California. Seems I go through a cover a year

Ahahaha, there goes my theory. Probably because the sun bears down on them and depending on how close you are to the coast, maybe the salt in the air? I also used the big ant brand cover from Amazon. Fit ok but only lasted about 6 months. They sent me another one free. It also only lasted about 6 months
I was looking for a cover for my FJ55 and came across Seal Skin:

harbor freight tarp for $14 and 4 tie downs. Throw it in the back and it makes a good day tent for shade or camping

works fine for me. I am not out to impress the HOA with a truck by a garage.
@Trollhole sells some very nice purpose made covers.
I have an old Specter cover that just covers the green house. Basically it's just a canvas box shape turned upside down. I only use it on the rare occasions I have to park out in the summer sun for a few days to keep the dash/upholstery from cracking. I don't think they make it anymore but it'd be simple to fab one up. It ties to the driver and passenger door handles and to the ambulance door handle on the rear. It works okay.
This is the same one that’s on Amazon (possibly also CCOT). I picked it up for $85 to my door.
It’s a little thin, but seems decent. Pretty good fit w/ 4Plus bumpers IMO.
