Hey all. You gave me such great advice with my last problem, I humbly come before you again to ask for some assistance.

My FJ was upgraded by a previous owner to a Chevy Smallblock 350 V8. Which I realy like for the most part. The problem I continue to experience is, when the vehicle heats up... (for example, driving it 15-20 minutes on a 85 degreee day)...it will not restart for 15-20 minutes if I turn it off. Stopping for gas on a hot day is a roll of the dice. It WILLcrank, it just wont turn over. The engine compartment seems to get fairly hot, but I think I've addressed that by installing a cooling fan shroud, and an Edelbrock 8724 Carburetor Spacer. The engine doesnt often exceed 200 degrees.

So IMO the heat in the engine compartment if causing the problem. It was a mechanical fuel pump. My neighbor suggested installing a fuelk pressure regulator. Thoughts?

I postyed some engine pics...just because.......Thanks as always

If it cranks it's turning over. Have you done any diagnosing when this happens? If not next time see if you have spark at the plugs. Take the air cleaner off and see if the carb squirts gas when you turn the throttle by hand.

Very first thing I’d do is get that plastic fuel filter off the intake manifold.

I dont think I've seen an FJ with louvers...is that standard? Mine's a Frankenstein.
The fjs don't have them, it's a 40series thing....they all came with them.

Vapor lock is my vote. T in the fuel line at the carb. Cable or electric solenoid valve on a return to tank hose. I would also put in a electric fuel pump in the supply hose to push the fuel for like 10 seconds before you turn the key to start it up. E fuel pump could be on a momentary switch for prime.

Any suggestions what to do with it?
It appears to be a stock style filter for an FJ60 (later 40?) that would mount down near the frame. It is currently resting right on the intake and could melt (less likely), but most likely to get very brittle from heat, then spew gas all over and you’ll have a different heat related problem.

I’d plumb in a metal inline filter and get it mounted with at least an inch all around it from intake/head. The exhaust may not allow the filter in the standard location on the frame. I’m not a big fan of clear plastic or especially glass filters on top of an engine.

For the initial question. Like said, do some diagnostics. If no fuel when you move the linkage: vapor lock issue.
If no or weak spark: coil may be getting too hot.

Um, ??? cranking is turning over. First is when it won't start, pull the air cleaner off and look to see if your choke plate is open. Those electric chokes can be a pain to adjust right. If it is open, great. If not that could be your problem by flooding it out. When you try to start it, do you put your foot to the floor and hold it? That dries the cylinders out and should crack open the choke plate if it is closed. So you

Identify if it is the choke and flooding first. Also, if it is vapor locking the pump can't pump air (boiled fuel). Therefore the carb won't get fuel and possibly be dry bowls, then the accelerator pump won't squirt gas when the accelerator is pressed. Check that as well.
