the previous owner had the hot wire from the fuel pump going up the firewall and in the hole for the steering column and then it just hangs there most likely due to me hitting it with my foot? Where does this wire (#1) connect please? Also there is another wire (#2) hanging loose but it appears to be off a ground.

Fj40 1973 not starting I have a clear fuel filter so I I can see if gas is coming through.

Thanks

I run my electric pump red + to the +coil and the black - neg to the engine/frame. Key is on the pump is on - some folks wire them to start circuit and threw a low oil pressure cut out - so if you loose oil pressure it cuts off the fuel.

I figured out that turning the key on my FJ62 did not start the electric fuel pump. A sensor in the mass air flow meter has to see air flow for the fuel pump to operate. This is for safety. Your in an accident and unconscious you do not want a cracked fuel starting and feeding a engine fire. Oil pressure sensor would be a must. My FJ62 is my oldest vehicle with an electric fuel pump so I assume all my newer vehicles have same cut out. Being pinned in a vehicle and burning to death is something would avoid with something as simple as a pressure switch.

Yea now its trapped in the car with a battery fire and the doors don't open, windows don't roll down and it can't call 911.

Upside down, or on its side the remote electric fuel pump will likely run but pick up any fuel is doubtful.

So, when I have my wire crank the vehicle, there is a very small clear tube that starts filling up with oil and it looks like someone sucking up liquid in a straw. At first I thought I was seeing things I’ll have to investigate what that tube is and where it goes but that’s not what you are taking about is it? I’ve casually worked on cars since I was a kid and I’ve done a lot of stuff just by learning from friends so if what I just wrote sounds ridiculous. I don’t know what that apparatus is. And very good point about the fuel pump not wanting it turned on and continually pump it just because the key is turned on.

Should point out this is aftermarket. All stock fuel pumps on the FJ40 were mechanical.
So I’ve replaced mechanical fuel pumps on other vehicles I’ve owned. I’d rather use a mechanical one. Normally, they bolt onto the engine and have a little arm on them so when the engine cranks, it moves the arm and pumps the fuel. So you’re telling me there is a to put a mechanical fuel pump on the 73? I’ll search YouTube as well.

I run the cheap diode electric fuel pump on my 72 and my 83 F150. Most times they only get started/run once or twice a month. Mechanical pump takes forever to prime. On the LC I have the Man-a-fre block off plate. The F150 has the electric in line.

$400+ no thanks
$200 getting better
But $10--15 is way better for me.

All the wires you have pointed out appear to be added and not stock. You might follow the wires back to their origin. They may connect to the stock wiring harness. From there you should be able to ID the circuit they are connected to. Most all stk fj40's have mechanical fuel pumps.

Must be driving a tesla if your doors wouldn't open from the inside without a car battery. My front doors open with the inside handle if door is locked. Back doors have a child safety manual switch that requires door to be open from the outside. Door opens don't care if my windows roll down. If dór damaged and won't open they made a devise that cuts seat belts and break glass. Only phone I have in my vehicles is a cell phone. Not sure how a battery fire would effect that. My first concern would be to get out of vehicle.

Not sure why there is problem with have a safety added to the fuel pump circuit. Just because it doesn't provide extra safety for every circumstance doesn't mean it's a waste to install. I am aware of a FJ60 that burned up because of a crack fuel above the intake manifold on a V8. Cruiser stalled and died. Driver didn't switch the off the engine when it stalled. No one was hurt but the cruiser was a total loss.

I will add that with fuel injection like the V8 had with crack fuel line has a high restriction because of fuel injection. T with a crack one the pump flow with drastically be increased over a low pressure pump for a carbureted engine.

I’m just gonna go ahead and replace my electric fuel pump. The previous owner put on and go back to the mechanical pump. You can see my original mechanical pump right there in the picture. You can see the threaded pipe coming up to go back up to the carb. Can anyone help me by telling me what screw is on to that threaded tube? Is there a part number for that piece? It would screw onto that threaded pipe and then presumably the other end would be a nipple to put the fuel line on. Thanks.

Basically where can I get the female part for that threaded tube that I would put my fuel line on. And do you guys put any kind of tape on the threading thanks.

Standard teflon tape will work - wrap it on correctly.
Scroll down in the sor link they have fittings

A $10 electric fuel pump lasts me like 10 years. Yea I carry a spare. But I carry a starter, points/condenser/cap/rotor, extra coil and longest spark plug wire, belts, hoses, fuses, bulbs, tire plug kit an air compressor, oil, brake fluid, tools, the book....
