Sounds like it was a challenging weekend for some others. Good to hear you had no issues. Was there any reasonably explanation as to how that d60 stub shaft broke?

Yeah, he's nuts and love using the skinny pedal. It gets exciting at 1:30...

Yeah, I see what you mean. I love those guys.

Are you doing Rubithon? I'm going up on the 14th doing the Renegade run. Will be my first Rubithon.

No I'm not. Too many rules, fees and schedules for my liking. The Marlin Crawler Roundup seems like a cool event too at less than half the price. Maybe one of these years I'll give it a go.

Had you looked at the tk1 racing sway bars at all?

I have, just a few days ago actually. I was trying to see what may work for front, either TK1 or an AntiRock. Problem is I don't know where/how to mount it so it clears the steering box and pitman arm, especially when the wheel is turned to the driver's side. Pitman arm sticks way out there.

I hear that! I'm thinking I can package a sway bar in the rear but pretty well given up on the front. Too much going on

ROOF RACK PART 2

Fast forward a few days and here you see the finished floor with thin-gauge expanded metal, mini D-rings to hold the totes and additional tubing for the kayak mounts I bought on Amazon.

I also made a small floor in the corner to hold my Weber grill

Closeup of the mini D-rings I bought online. Took a bit of searching since most of the stuff out there are giant and rated for thousands of pounds. Too much to hold a few totes.

And here's the layout with all six Action Packer totes. I doubt I'll fill all these up but I wanted to future-proof the cargo management. Never know when you'll need the extra space. These things are rock solid and are NOT moving.

And that's it! Easy right? A lot of work, but I saved a lot and designed it exactly how I wanted

My bad I meant mounts, I see to diff versions. this is my first rack so i really want to carbon copy the base of yours.

Made a quick run with the brother in law up to Sourgrass. He's new to wheeling so I figured this would be a good trail to get his feet wet. Fun little trail, about 2.5 miles long with enough obstacles to challenge a newcomer. Wish it were a bit longer though, reached the end in about 45min.

You are beond Blessed to live so close to Sierra Nevada Mountains where some of the best wheelin is.
Is Sourgrass the trail they use for the fj45 Run? There is more spur trails is there not?

You camera always take great pictures.

Yup, that's the trail, and thanks! I don't think there are other trails off this one, maybe just some fire roads. But Slick Rock and Deer Valley are just a couple miles east of here.

REAR DIFF ARMOR

Got tired of destroying rear diff drain plugs. Gotten to the point where the lip around the plug was almost completely shaved down.

Been on the hunt for 9.5" axle armor for a while but never had any luck until I stumbled across this page: Toyota 9.5" Landcruiser Diff Armor

IMG_2074_1024x1024.JPG

Turns out however, this doesn't fit the 80 series 9.5" axle perfectly. So be warned if you wanna try this, it will take a bit of cutting and massaging to fit just right. Our axles have a thicker truss on the bottom and the diff cover is a little more bulgy than the older 9.5" axle housings apparently.

Here it is all welded up. Not pretty but sure beats having a bare housing dragged through the rocks time and again.
