Saw a picture of your rig in Toyota 4wd magazine... well a early pic, before your linked front end; however, you made it into readers rigs.

Congrats.

Thanks! I submitted that picture to them on 11/18/14. So just a slight backlog of pictures for them to sort thru.

And some crazy people think that printed media is not timely or relevant?

Time for a change...painting the beadlocks

Like the metallic finish!

Thanks! I really like the color, Rustoleum 'Dark Steel'. I'll document this here for anyone else that might be curious. I have a love/hate relationship with Rustoleum. Love their products and the colors, especially the metallics but I absolutely HATE HATE their "Universal" line of spray paint with the stupid trigger nozzle. This thing is awful. They clog, spurt paint everywhere and sometime just flat out stop working. It's a shame too because the Universal line has some of the nicest colors and finishes.

Not willing to give up I tore off the cap/trigger nozzle and of course they use a different tip on the can. The standard Rustoleum nozzles won't work on these cans. So I started going through my spray paint collection and found one that worked. The Valspray spray paint cans sold by Lowes use the same tip as the Rustoleum Universal.

So if you like the colors of the Rustoleum Universal line but hate the trigger nozzle, tear it off and swap it with a nozzle from a Valspar can. Now you can use it like a can of regular spray paint without ruining your finish.

Great choice, exact same color I used on my bumpers, sliders, & suspension arms.
You're right about the cans, usually 2 out of 10 completely stop working, while the rest start shooting droplets everywhere.

Yes pink (Salmon) would be the correct color you should use.

Hey, where do you put your spare tire. I know you probably get this question alot. I looked and looked on your thread but I did not find the info on how you deal with a spare tire.?

He's going commando.

Yup, haven't carried a spare tire for a while which I know is risky. I'm going to hate myself when that day inevitably comes.

I don't know how you feel comfortable being in the middle of Fordyce without a spare. If you rip a gash in a sidewall, you're done - unless you just plan on borrowing someone else's

I don't. I need to figure out how to carry it inside while still having some room for cargo, dog, camping stuff, etc. I have no desire to carry a spare on a rear swingout anymore. Been there and don't want to do it again.

A good plug/patch kit, and a canvas stitch kit will get you off the trail and back to a trailer. Add a tube to the mix, and you can usually limp it home. I carried all of the above for 3 years and never needed any of it, at least not for me. Still not a true replacement for a spare, but they eat up a TON of space.

My logic is - if travelling solo then i'm going hardcore but i have the room and i can stash it in the rig. If I'm going with kids and tons of cargo, then I can just throw it on the swingout - isn't ideal but it holds it and brings it with me.

agree with you on the nozzles, I feel like spray cans have gotten worse and worse to use over time......
