Looking for IH8MUD collective knowledge on the following:

I've attached a photo of two early FJ60 OEM rear hubcaps. I believe starting in 1985 Toyota used black caps on the rear with 'Toyota' on them. These are still available from Toyota. However, the early style rear caps are nearly impossible to find in better condition than as shown. Does anyone have a photo of a good to great example of the cap on the right in my image? I'm trying to find what color of paint was used in the center surrounding the 'T'. There aren't many photos of good examples of these. But, it looks like there was a light tan color used. Any help is appreciated.

Also, does anyone have photos and/or part #s for the OEM grommets used on both the door and body that the front speaker wires pass through as they go into the door?

Thanks so much in advance!

Someone might be able to chime in with more depth as I am only cruising diagrams on my phone, but it appears the grommet is part of the door speaker wiring on a 60. So with that assumption, you would need the door speaker harness which is the following:

I've seen a semi pristine rear hubcap on @CenTXFJ60 "Frankenstein" build. I'm not sure if he painted it, but if it's original... It seems more like a golden tan color. Maybe he has a pic in his thread. If not, I'm sure he can post one later in the week. I need to paint mine too, so I'm interested in figuring out the color as well.

This is the best shot I have on my phone. It's an 87, but the caps came off my 82

@CaptClose / @CenTXFJ60:
Thank you both! That is exactly what I was trying to find. Much appreciated^2!

Okay... I was at Jim's place and stole a picture of his hubcaps. The camera doesn't quite capture the true color, it is definitely a gold metallic flake. Here is a close-up

Wow, wow, wow. I've not seen detail on this level. I really, really appreciate this. Once I get my set finished, I'll post some photos.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

No problem my friend. Post a "how-to" if you paint them. I'm curious about how the best way to tape and mask the hub caps for paint.

Polish the T first with fine steel wool. Then use masking tape to cover the T and trim excess masking tape from the perimeter of the T with an exacto knife.

Same for the other areas of the cap.

Mine has been sitting in a box for a year. Can't find the right color gold.

Please post paint brand and # for the center.

Guys-
Apologies for the delay. This is an ongoing, full blown 'rabbit hole' project of mine. Current status is I have 6 rear caps and 2 front caps (actually 'tube' is more appropriate). I've had everything re-chromed. See photo below with arrows showing where I need the chrome to stay. I had been working on finding a detailed sandblaster that could take the chrome off where the paint should go so the paint would stick. The caps are with him now. We'll see what the come back like. Assuming they are good, I will most likely find a graphic artist that can stencil off the circles and 'T' correctly then paint them. My truck is red, so I'm doing one set in red as per the photo at the beginning of this post. Beachcomber Bernie is getting a set of the rears in red as well. The last two rears I will do in this yet-to-be determined gold color. Not sure what # it is yet. I will let you know once I do.

Awesome.. get that photo up and let us know the approximate cost to have it re-chromed. Thanks!

Same caps used on late model fj40 with the white spoke wheels

Any update on the gold color? I'm going to refinish my rears. I have the ones that are black and just say "TOYOTA" but I think the gold is the same.

I kind of did a quick refresh on a spare set of hub covers I had laying around this week. Here's the "before"

I just taped it off with some painters tape and a razor blade.

A couple coats of "Rustoleum Metalic Pure Gold" rattle can paint.

I let that dry for a bit and then masked off the hub again to spray the black. The finished look is okay. I'd probably try masking with plastidip next time to get cleaner lines.

Man you got 6 rear caps?? I'm kinda envious. If you have any others laying around I might swipe them off you to get chromed.

Keep us posted, I'd like to see them all done.

Hi all,

all I need is ONE of these "T" caps! Anyone have one? My truck had the one, but I need a second for the other side!
(I will refurbish, just want it not to be dented)

Thank you!!!
