It's definitely had body work done. The rear sill was replaced. The lines in the back where the sill meets the lower section of 1/4 panel has been mudded over. The lines on the front of the cruiser also lead me to believe they were mudded up since they don't seem as pronounced as they should (could just be the pics, but I'm saying it's got some bondo in there).
The paint looks pretty bad especially on the hood. I see some heavy smoke in the clear which usually means an amateur had the paint gun in his/her hand with the air pressure turned up too high causing it to fall back down on the hood giving a smoke like residue to appear in the clear. No wet sanding will take that away unless you re-clear.
I'm not sure what you are looking to spend, but $16,500 is pretty high for that cruiser IMO. I'd look for a clean survivor in the $10k range and invest another $5k or so in getting it completely roadworthy. Though the prices of Cruisers have sky rocketed in recent, buying a polished turd is still alive and well. A lot of these "Classic Car" Specific Dealerships are just another shark in the flipping game and have little to no knowledge when it comes to these fine machines.
Something like this would be at the top of my price range. I dont want to spend more that 17.5. I could probably stretch up to 20 if something really nice popped up.
Thanks for the input. If you were to offer them something, what would you start with?
I forgot about that one. Thanks for the reminder!@toomanytoyzz is nicely saying run from this one. Check out the one that @cruiserdan has listed in the classifieds.

If that was the only cruiser for sale, and I HAD to have one (like someone putting a gun to my head and saying "you better buy this f@#$ing rig or else") I'd offer them $7k only to have some pompous salesman laugh and tell me to hit the road. Funny thing is the salesman would be sort of justified in his laugh since people are overpaying like crazy for these rigs in recent. Some sucker will buck up for it.
A little background on me though. My strengths lie in bodywork. I'm an ok mechanic, but I usually leave the bigger projects for my buddy's who are in the field and swap it for body work. It's served me well over the years, and the fact that I'm getting older I'm more than happy to give a lot more of the mechanical aspect of this hobby in exchange for body work. With this rig, my offer would have to be based on it's current mechanical condition. The last thing I would want is to buck up the asking price (or close to it) only to bring it home and find out one or two of the cylinders are tired or the tranny needs replacing. These are big jobs for these rigs and require someone who knows what they are doing to do it correctly, and most of these dealerships do not check any of that crap. They wow you with the shiny paint on a cool showroom floor next to all these other classic cars.
That all makes sense.
What are your thoughts on the one that @cruiserdan has up for sale?
For Sale: - 1969 FJ40, Land Cruiser Heritage Museum collection.
That add should read hastily restored. They could not figure out how to make the long jump seats work with the roll bar and where are the fasteners for the spare tire latch.

Looks like a nice cruiser their, original paint too. The green one is a basket case, has tons of oil leaks, and crappy body work. The body work will need to be redone all over correctly and you will spend a lot of labor on mechanical work. That all makes sense.

I reached out to them just to see what happens. I told them all the things I thought I would have to address and if their price had wiggle room. I will keep the thread updated.Looks like a nice cruiser their, original paint too. The green one is a basket case, has tons of oil leaks, and crappy body work.
