I deleted all the smog-related and other unused wiring from my 79 recently. Not sure, but that looks like a connector I removed, same type, same location. I guessed it was some sort of smog-related sensor that had been removed by the PO.

Trace it back to the ECC to make sure.

Apparently you don’t have the optional A/C. That plug was pre-wired into the harness for the pressure switch that would have been located on the high pressure hose running between the inner fender well and the battery tray. My 40 is a 79 with (first year available option) Nippondenso A/C.

That makes sense. I removed my AC option wiring when deleting my smog wiring. Thanks for solving my mystery too.

The rubber cover and wiring was prewired into the harness starting in 1979 as far as I know.
