Do you daily your “built” 100?

500 miles per month is ~41 gallons of fuel at 4 dollars per gallon... ~166 dollars per month.

First, if that is your house payment, I'm jealous.
Second, unless you want to DD a late 80s or early 90s toyota/Honda, you'll come out way ahead driving the 100.

Once you factor in insurance, registration, etc, it won't save you any money.

500+ a week.

But yes I know all the downfall to hoopdies, and I don’t have time to maintain another rig.

Mine isn’t built but it is my only car after I decided to pair down to one vehicle for a change. Inside of a 100 is a great place to be. I like it a lot, for a lot of reasons. I like it so much that I want to preserve it and not indiscriminately stack tons of miles on it any longer.

I guess if I had to commute everyday, I'd hesitate to DD the 100, but I think that's more about not wanting to out extra miles on what's essentially an irreplaceable vehicle. That said, I really enjoy driving it every time I'm in it and I don't hesitate to take to the grocery store or whatever.

My secret to saving money on gas for the 4x4s is to use motorcycles as much as possible. It's therapy too.

I switch out between my 96 Acura Integra and my 99 100 series with sliders 33’s (35s coming soon) loaded down drawers and roof rack. The Integra helps with gas, but luckily I work from home and don’t generally drive too much. 90’s cars FTW

I would love to daily mine, but I commute 25 miles each way to work (for now, remote work coming back soon) and it's just not economical. Also, I just don't feel like putting too many miles on it doing stuff that I can do in another car. For example, I don't want to burn through my all-terrains going to work and back. I'm also not in a rush to get to the next timing belt change.

To me it's worth it saving it for camping trips/excursions etc which is the reason I bought it.

Nice! I was just thinking the other day how much I miss my 93 Civic Si and would love for that to be my daily driver, although I would worry about getting into an accident (myself and the skyrocketing value of those cars).

I drive it more often than my other vehicles... It's a Toyota, the whole point is putting miles on it.

I get better gas mileage than a lot of you though, which is sweet. Not that 12.5-13.5 is good, but it's better than 11.

I average 5,000 miles a year. I try to drive it once a week to keep the battery up and to burn off condensation in the exhaust.

Unless I'm on a long trip across the country, local off-roading fun uses roughly 1 tank of fuel each month.

The Tacoma is the official daily.

Yes, the math never works out to "buy a more economical vehicle for commutes". Even expensive gas prices are cheap compared to buying and maintaining another vehicle.

Yup.

Around 3k miles a month.

I took my wife’s car this morning because she was moaning something something gas.

My neck hurts, and I’m not looking forward to the hour being stuck in a Nissan.

I’ll gladly pay my fuel costs for the comfort. When it goes to the kid, I’ll do the same thing in the 200.

I daily drive my LX, it’s also used for our road trip/ski trips, mpg usually in the 10-12 range (but have achieved a best of 15.1). Like others have said gas is cheap compared to an additional vehicle.

Sure do, wouldn't have it any other way. I've daily driven modified Land Cruisers for 34 uninterrupted years and don't plan to ever stop, they put a smile on my face every day. I don't give a sh*t about logic or reason or the price of fuel, nobody goes to their death bed wishing they'd driven a Corolla instead. As my great friend @ginericLC says, "some people shell out tens of thousands of dollars for therapy, we drive Land Cruisers.". #lifelongCruiserhead

I feel much safer in the land cruiser than the Integra lol. Accidents and theft are my biggest worries with that car since it’s a tin can that can disappear just by looking at it wrong, but it’s so much fun to drive and costs half the price to fill up and goes twice as many miles as the land cruiser. I’m holding onto my Integra for as long as possible, I’ve had it since 2006 and it’s completely stock under the hood which is rare for a 90’s Honda.

Not everyone chooses to get an economy car for their commute strictly for economics. Some people are also concerned with how much gas they are burning regardless of cost.

I can't wait to get back to daily driving a 100. My son stole my 100 and took it to college. I've been slumming driving an 80 and 60/80 hybrid. And if you think buying fuel sucks for a 100 you should try driving something on 37s.

My son has tried taking my 100 series DD like that. My solution was purchase a couple other 100 series to put between my son and my DD. 😁

Do those same people think that all the energy and raw materials it took to make that additional vehicle that will eventually get dumped in a scrap yard aren't counted in the energy balance?

I daily mine, three or more times a week, usually. Those are the days when I drop my kid off at daycare before I head into the office. As was already mentioned, I just feel it's safer for him- I can put his car seat in the middle, the truck weighs 3 tons or more, and has a much higher center of gravity than my German sedan. However sometimes it depends on what work is being done to what vehicle. I've solely driven the LC when my car is acting up, and drove the car for more than a month when I was taking forever to get my bumpers done. I'm fortunate, but I like being able to choose whether I want the fun, fast, sporty vehicle or the fun, slow tank. They each have their place when it comes to putting a smile on my face. Life is too short (and as an American I spend too much time in my car) to not have fun driving.

I have heard more than a bunch of times where folks will say......I drive this or that cause I want to keep miles down on my new Tundra. Then worry about cost of gas or stinkin mpg. Huh? Might want to worry about that coinage wasting away in your garage.

I do just because my garage situation doesn't support another car. Next house will have an extra spot and I plan on buying something for fun for "daily" road use.

I think the LX drives nicely in typical traffic, but it's not fun. Realizing a 700hp twin turbo v12 luxury sedan gets better gas mileage was a bit of an epiphany for me, haha. There are much more enjoyable ways to get less than 15mpg on the highway than a 100.
