Mocked up a second size flare…. Here is the first one.. kind of the minimum for the tires, but I thought it might look better a little larger.... more like what @waiting for time did.... actually with the tire down, it may look better to have one like the sandal dude was making..

I would increase the angle up to 45 ish and make it wider. Best look at it with the full image not just the top part, the lack of height above it is misleading.

Tnx for coming over to my page and reminding me of your progress. Great work on your bed and your process is very similar to mine construction wise. Yes it is a labor of love slicing and dicing to get the fit up on the placement of the fender skins and your proportions look just fine. I don’t know if you noticed but i chose to replicate most if not all of the bed pieces commercially and was able find a metal fab company to do the work with computer aided benders for the floors, headboard, top rail and standard metal pieces purchased locally for the inner structures pieces. From the original bed’s i used the wheel wells tail gate and bed sides which were in pretty rough shape but cutting up and welding them back to the needed shape eliminated most of the rust so you see the finished product in my most recent pic’s on my blog here. It is exciting to be in your space of completion now you can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I wanted to cross post your build as it is amazing if anyone is looking for motivation and ideas.....

Here we go… started with the corners…. Going to keep the rear profile for the tailgate but the side will be straight.

First tested on a scrap then went all out and did the whole section clamping and welding The piece to angle iron and beating with a body hammer for 15 minutes…. I think this might work.

Just saw a picture of that @UZJ40 posted up of his rig with 37‘s…. And realized he used front fenders to make the flares…. Darn, they look good…. Time to go digging in the barn to see what old fenders I have.

They were definitely a lot of work... Might have almost been easier to make some from scratch than modify those to work. I like how they turned out though.

Bent Some 14 gauge.

Got the drivers side panels ready to weld in. I just ordered some weld through primer, so will be a few days…. Going wheeling this weekend anyway… My plan is to sandblast the sections that I will be unable to get to later to remove the scale, either use the weld through primer if I’m going to weld or use por 15 to cover those sections before I start welding at all together.

On this corner, once I tack the front on, I will weld from the back a good bit so I can do a slight roundover on the corner.

Here is how I did the front corner, mimicking the rear corner..

I added the 30 degree bend on the front side to give it a more finished look.

I think I will fill this section. The original 79 bed had a larger plate that welded there to support the rack -- that I am not going to use.

Looking awesome. Wish I has your ability, my load tray would be way better if I did!

Progress… Got all the pieces sandblasted to get rid of the mill scale ..as well as the fender edges. Put weld through primer on the back of sections that I can’t get to later. Started welding things back together..

Looking good, that is a bunch of work and it will look so much better for it.

Thanks... it has been a bunch of time; however, been fun to be welding things back on the rig.

I remember the time it took for me to weld all the pieces back together, thought i would never finish mating the new to the old ones but low and behold i kept at it and you will get there. You have a plan and it shows.

Let's not jump to any conclusions about me knowing what I am doing..... seat of my pants is how I fly...
