One thing I learned and that you might want to know. I and my PO had trouble with fresh freeze plugs leaking. I tried all sorts of things but ended up using 3M's the Right Stuff to hold them in without leaks. There may be other stuff that's even better, but it was a big headache pulling and replacing.

It turns out, if you check the 64 engine manual you will see that the pressure rating for the radiator cap is 4 lbs, rather than the 14 lbs that Toyota sells. I think that that at least contributed to my blowing one of the freeze plugs one morning last November. I found one at NAPA rated for 4 lbs that fits, and it seems to be OK so far. I am not the only one who has had this issue with F135. The F145 is rated at 7 lbs, and that is available as well.

hmmm goood to know!!!

Should I chat with the rebuilder cats about this yeah?

Congrats on the special occasion of the 100th page. And I will pack that stuff tomorrow. Really.

I have a set of new Toyota timing gears in the "bought one too many" pile if you're looking.. Crank timing gear and cam timin gear. Cost me $200 from SOR plus shipping and box charges.

$160 delivered.

did you say anything like....this better not take till next year, get right on it!!! :)

haha :D

Yeah, nothing has been on time or schedule for this rig.
I hope everything goes smoothly in regard to the rebuild etc.

I think if anything else goes wrong I am gonna have to park it in cheap storage until i can save up cash to fix whatever might go wrong next heh.

Yeah, I would have them replace them. That way it's their dime when they leak. Right? I replaced my own and wished I hadn't, but I'm not sure what would have happened had they leaked anyway.

hehe :D

Update... motor should be to the shop by monday or tuesday ;)

I'll let ya know about the timing gears then if that is cool Foxfab :)
It's Tuesday. Any updates on the motor?

looks like it is going down tomorrow :)

Things it looks like i need:

1) clutch
2) rear main gasket

Happy this stuff is getting started :)

Also, just to double check, the 2 studs coming off the head for the exhaust and intake manifold ( far left and right where they bold onto the head ) ...
Those are jsut guide studs right? They are not threaded and bolted?

#2

do are those supposed to have threaded nuts to tighten them at one end, or are they "guide" studs with nothing holding the manifolds in place...?

it's threaded but only for guide. there is no nut on the end to tighten.
