The dash on my 62 is really starting to crack badly and i know new pads can be bought for big $$ but was wondering how anyone may have fared trying the thin caps that are out there for around $130 thereabouts...?? Anyone use those and have comments good or bad...??

I put one on my 60. It looks a lot better then the cracked to hell stock dash. But, it doesn't exactly fit perfectly around the radio and vents. Kind of like a 10 foot paint job.

Someone put one on mine before I got it. Wish they had not because it’s really on there and will be a pain to get off. It currently prevents me from removing the radio and gauge panel because how it fits and because of the way they installed it the cover has cracked too. I plan to pull it and assess the stock dash. Either splurge and have it redone properly or maybe floc it.

My dash is cracked pretty bad. I tried the dash cover but it didn’t fit great unless you stuck it down with the provided double side tape. I plan to have it recovered in leather.

I have one on my 60. true it doesn't exactly fit around the radio and vents perfectly. it is a great alternative, I believe. if you have the money get a new dash. if not get a dash cover until you do. it will look 80-90% better depending on how bad your dash is. I recommend it.

I have one on my 60. I like it a whole lot better than the cracked up dash pad. I didn't glue mine. Two years later it still looks and fits just fine. It's not perfect but there's not much about my truck that is perfect. It is better and that is what matters most to me.

Unlike 60 series dash pads, used 62 dash pads aren’t hard to find in good shape for not a lot of money. I’d definitely go that route. Good luck!

I have one on my 60. It doesnt fit well. Its just laying on the dash at this point because I dont think I want to keep it.

That looks pretty damned good to me! What brand/model/where'd you get that?

Mine worked well and looked fine. No one has ever noticed I had a cap and it was the $100 eBay FJ60 grey version. 10/10 would recommend over rebuilding the cracked original.

Sounds like there may be a few mixed feelings on the dash covers.

There are actually a couple different manufacturers out there on the market.

I have been really happy with these and have sold more than I can count.

If installed correctly (glue only around the edges and vents) they tend to hold up great and look amazing!

My two cents!

Thanks Guys
Mike

I have a brown Cruiser Corps dash cap for my 60 and it looks great. The original dash is in great condition and I got the cap just as a protective measure. It fits pretty snugly without any adhesive, which is how I'm using it.

They’re not awful but they just don’t look/feel right imo. Might as well do it right and not have to know that your old piece of junk is still under there.

Sounds like it's best to not glue them down. I used a (disclaimer: NOT-manufacturer-approved) adhesive and it warped and cracked the cover in one summer. Creaks some too heating up and cooling down, don't care for the hard plastic look/feel either. Still looks better than the cracked old one though. Temporary until better comes along. Hint hint.

For me it was a good fix until l I can afford to have the dash recover (I have a spare for this reason) a good recover from a reputable source is about $1100.
As I redid the seats, carpet and soon door cards, a cracked dash looked like crap. Are they the perfect solution? Nope, but they look fine, although plasticity.

I will say it is worth getting one from a reputable vendor like Cruiser Corp. They will paint it correctly as they normally come black.
My first one the carrier destroyed Cruiser Corp to care of that right quick and a new cap was out to me fast.

Some great responses......thanks. I may look into getting the original recovered....since I need to get my driver seat reupholstered too. I'll ask the upholstery guy if he has any experience doing that kind of thing. Who's had their dash "cap' the longest..?? Any signs they are failing as far as cracking?

Let us know what you find out on recovering the cap. I recently talked to Just Dashes and they are at about $1200. Too pricey for me. Their process is removing the old vinyl and foam, then replacing the foam with closed cell foam. Then vacuum forming new vinyl over that.
I’d imagine a diy recover would be a bit easier on a 62 dash
