Is that metallic charcoal and chrome? I just did my rear vents that same hue and was considering doing the grille. That pic made up my mind. Decent.

The topcoat is a textured satin black, it just looks like the metallic charcoal in the sun. It's hard to get a pic, it's only black at a certain angle and my phone won't pick it up.

I see it now... it is sexy...

Wow! Great job bringing that 62 back to life.
You have done an amazing job!
I'm hooked!

Thanks. Everything's in pretty good shape and cleaning up well.

Being of the mindset 'I can fix it' ...no matter what the condition is, I went about fixing the dash. Here's what I started with...

Started by cutting back the cracks into a v shape and sanding the edges of the vinyl. After too many dash repair videos, i filled the majority of the holes with bondo leaving about a 1/4 to 1/8" depression. Then used padded dash filler to finish

Next, after hours of sanding, more dash filler, sanding, feathering out, sprayed some SEM texture....then topped with SEM color coat flexible coating. I used the graphite color.

Damn! Nice work dude! That is on my list of things that I am going to attempt this year. Trying to decide if I want to do like you did or file the craps and then do a new piece of vinyl over it.

Very excited at this point as the thing looks brand new....probably have about 20 man hours in and $70 in materials..

Fast forward to 2 days later....it has been sitting in the heated garage that I keep about 70 most the night then it cools to about 55 overnight...then around 60 during the day and so forth...

The vinyl is so old and brittle, that it is developing little micro cracks where it wasn't repaired.

So...with a healthier dash, this would definitely work...with this old brittle turd...nope. Total bummer.

If your vinyl is healthy and not brittle, it will definitely work. The padded dash filler smells and handles exactly like bondo..the hardener is blue. These are the products I used that all worked well.

Ah bummer so your new paint job is cracking!!!
It's the vinyl underneath, I thought at first it was the color coat but I can push down on one side of the crack with my thumb nail and it's all the way through.

A+ for effort. Nothing ventured, nothing gained:). There are people out there who will benefit from your experience. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks. I will definitely be doing the dash in the 60 in the future, it has about a 1/2 inch crack, should come out great.
