10/69 70 model. First year without a throttle cable.chrome plug next to the choke filled the throttle hole.
Could you help me to figure out what the knob directly to the left of the 4wd switch does? I have not been able to find anything about what this knob does.

do you mean the right of the knob?

that is the cowl vent

I don't have that switch and I don't have a cig lighter on my 1965
cowl vent didn't appear until 66 or 67 with the disappearance of the windshield frame vent
yeah I haven't been able to figure out what it is...
Does anyone know what this knob does on a 66?
Edit: just realized someone asked the same question on this forum. It is the cowl vent.
Can someone send an image of how this early cowl vent knob connects to the cowl vent? Thanks!

Hey another late comer, but I didn’t see a pic of the 65 FJ40. Mine has been converted to 3 on the floor so obviously the lever and 4wd is missing. 4wd knob has been replaced with a switch for the horn..weird but whatever. There is also something missing in-between the ignition switch and the left blinker indicator but I think a PO drilled that. Otherwise this is pretty close to stock I believe.

I know this is an old thread, but if anyone gets notified there is a new post in it, mine is a 1971 FJ40 with a build date of December 1970. If anyone could tell me the proper order for that year, I would greatly appreciate it. I am especially curious about the small empty hole to the left of the cig lighter? Wish I had better straight on pics. I'm also curious about the unlabeled lights. To the left of the steering wheel I see the brake light labeled, then there is a light that is not labeled, and a white pull knob? To the right of the wheel, closest to the wheel, are 2 more lights above and below each other and neither of them labeled. And it looks like the paint is gone from the other knobs. It's at the paint shop so I can't look at them to see if I can tell what they are, so if you know, please share.

@Living in the Past - Your dash layout looks the closest to mine.
What is the red button or pull knob to the left of the cig lighter? And is it a push button or a pull knob?
Then on the bottom row, what is the small black one on the far right? The 2 "H" pulls must be the heater, front and back. Which is front, and which is back?
On the far left you (and I) have 2 lights, 1 above and below each other. What are each of them?
Then to the left of my wheel, I have a light labeled Brake, but to the right of it is another light that is not labeled. Do you have that too? If so, what is it? Also to the left of the wheel is a white pull knob. Do you have that, and if so, what is it?
