To clarify this further. On the later 80 series birf...can't you just machine a grove in the end of the birf so that it will accept the c clip on the manual hubs? I'm using the 80 series axles also and going part time. But I'm not one to spend well over a grand on the correct hubs and birfs if I can just machine a groove and use mini truck/ 60 series hubs that I have laying around. They sure do look pretty in those pics but that some expensive bling.

Theoretically, yes.

I'm using the r151 in my 79 build. Its going behind a 3.3 cummins with factory turbo. the engine puts out about the same numbers as a na 1hz. We'll see how long it lasts. I have two spare trannies so I doubt I'll blow thru all of them during the life of the truck.

Yooper can I ask a favor of you...next time you're around the truck with a tape measure. Could you take two measurements for me.

1. The dimensions of the radiator
2. How far the rear sub tank sticks below the bottom of the frame. (if you have the factory sub tank)

Trying to sort a few things out on my own build.

Thanks in advance

I will measure this evening.

I do not have the factory sub tank, my rear tank is a 20 gallon RCI fuel cell. It was way less expensive than the factory tank, which my donor vehicle did not have. I suspect the mount is custom but I'll photograph it.

Some quick cell phone pics at dusk:

Radiator itself, not counting the bracketry, is 27 1/4" tall from the top of the cap to the very bottom, 3" thick, 21 1/2" wide. The side brackets are pretty big, they add a good 4" on each side. It is a new Toyota 79 series radiator, 16400-17400, $506

The rear fuel cell drops about 4 1/2" below the flat part of the frame where the rear springs mount. Custom mount. It's not as low as the front factory tank. It's really close to the rear axle and between the springs so it's pretty unlikely to get hit.

Sean that truck is bad-ass.

I envy everything but the wait.

Many Many thanks for the measurements, photos, and part #. If I were close I would bring you by a case of your favorite beer.
Like Dan said it is a hell of a nice truck. I only hope mine turns out half as nice as yours.

The height on the radiator is whats killing me. With the 79 on the 80 frame I'm afraid the stock 79 radiator will be to tall b/c the crossmember on the 80 frame is directly below where it mounts.

The rear tank looks good. It sticks down a bit less the the factory tank would. I have the factory tank so I'm gonna use it. Just need to make some mounts.

Thanks again for you help.

Depending on what engine you are using, a stock 1FZ radiator might fir the bill if you want to stay Toyota.

Yooper, is that a pre-made fuel cell? Or was it custom made? If pre-made, does it have the foam in it?

looks like the "Pro-street" models have no foam. Which looks like what you got. which is good... because the foam does not get along with diesel.

Hubs: 43530-60130 (introduced with the 105 series back in the day)

Those hubs are pricey!
I wonder how much of a saving one would get through Aisin? Part #: FHT-001

High jack off/

a google of "fht-001 aisin" indicates it is widely available in russia.

OK, he's had it for almost a week now..

To heck with the pictures, let's see us some YouTube Video Action?? :bounce:

Even if ya can't get out to do a trail run, just at least the engine running and a video from the passenger seat sort of like this (minus the fact I forgot to put it on night vision) Youtube: Post Engine and Trans Work on the Runner.

Guys, I hate to call him out on this, but I think Yooper's suffering from "SuperModel Syndrome".

You know, where there's all this information, pictures, etc-etc pushed out to hype things up a bunch? All's going sweet up until some random guy (Yooper in this case ;) ) picks her up and they're suddenly "an item" or "a couple" then all you get is fuzzy pictures if anything else at all because he's afraid someone else will be admiring her too much?

C'Mon man, I asked already, cough up a nice trail video or some sick scenic shots before the weather gets worse. :steer:

keep your socks on, Gina.

I don't have any sick scenic shots, I'm busy working all day and I haven't gone anywhere. Haven't been on a trail either.

I'll be installing the hubs beno sent me this weekend, if I have time I'll take some pictures or video.

seats

Yooper, I looked at the seats in your rig while in Colorado but I don't remember the details other than appeared newly upholstered. Are they mine truck seats? Are they comfortable and are you satisfied with them? I'm trying to decide what to put in mine and wondering if there is a better option. I'm 6'2" and I want a comfortable seat. Just asking for you advice and opinion.
Thanks

CMoney - thought i'd pipe up since i had a similar problem (ie: tall person in a HZJ79). I'm 6'5. I started out trying to use these beautiful BMW leather seats. They took up too much space. So I went seat hunting, but after looking at tons of different seat options, finally found that the mine truck seats take up the least cab space of any option i could find. I had mine re-upholstered and added pockets to the front and rear (storage is short of hand in a HZJ79).

The last trip I took was about 12 hours of seat time on the way home (6 hours of trail, 6 hours of highway), and I have to say... pretty comfy.

Only downside: the "bench" on the passenger side... not really big enough for two people unless they are tiny little people... but too big to mount a center console.
