I had read that about 70 axles before. That's one thing I need to talk to the shop about and clarify. My front axle is actually a Frankenaxle with an 80 series housing and inner axles and 79 series everything else, I think. This is because the mine truck axle was pre-2007 and was too narrow and it turns out the 80 series axle housing is almost identical to the late model (2007+) 79 series axle.

Yes I have one key for ignition and both doors. :) I think my door locks are probably from the mine truck that supplied the chassis.

Such a beautiful rig! I'm just curious why gray top and wheels? (not that that they look bad though)

Congrats on the 79 Yooper, it looks real nice. Just one question, why are your rear leaf packs so thick? Is the ride not a bit on the stiff side?

it seems silly that mr.toyota put that transmission in vs the h151:meh:

sean, it looks great and I am glad your happy with it.
i have 79 series envy.

Congrats

Its proberly one of the few things toyota didnt over engineer, with stock tyres and a stock NA 1hz the r151 doesnt have to much to worry about , it seems to be the after market mods that push the boxs to the limits

2" Old Man Emu lift. It's a bit stiff. I'm going to give the springs some time to settle in but I might take out a leaf.

actually Clint, i tore up my R151 behind a NA PZ, they are a weak tranny.
the H55F that was swapped in was a mod that is worth every penny.

Absolutely no doubt the h55 is a much better box to the than the r151 for the cruisers , and the r box does have it's problems yet I have a few mates running these r boxs behind there turbo 1hz's for the past 4+ years and haven't had a single drama with them.

Congrats!!! I want a ride.

I'm using the r151 in my 79 build. Its going behind a 3.3 cummins with factory turbo. the engine puts out about the same numbers as a na 1hz. We'll see how long it lasts. I have two spare trannies so I doubt I'll blow thru all of them during the life of the truck.

Yooper can I ask a favor of you...next time you're around the truck with a tape measure. Could you take two measurements for me.

1. The dimensions of the radiator
2. How far the rear sub tank sticks below the bottom of the frame. (if you have the factory sub tank)

Trying to sort a few things out on my own build.

Thanks in advance

I will measure this evening.

I do not have the factory sub tank, my rear tank is a 20 gallon RCI fuel cell. It was way less expensive than the factory tank, which my donor vehicle did not have. I suspect the mount is custom but I'll photograph it.

:clap::clap::clap:

Look awesome! Bet you are pleased to get it back, maybe now yours is out the way, Proffitts can get to work on mine ;)

Post up some vids of this thing running, driving, idling, whatever!!
We need more cruiser porn!!

I think somewhere a dump truck owner is wondering where his leaf springs got off too those things are BEEFY!!

Looks really great!

For those of you keeping track, these are the correct part numbers needed for the later 7x for manual hubs:

Hubs: 43530-60130 (introduced with the 105 series back in the day)

Birfs: 43405-60120 (238.5mm length birf, no ABS ring)

The hubs will have the correct holes for 10mm studs as opposed to the 80 series and mid-1990's 7x series rigs that had 8mm studs.

The birfs are actually found on 1991-1992 FJ80's. Up through 4/1994 you can also get the same length birf but with ABS rings for the early production 1FZ's.

Anyway, all of the above parts are available in the US.

:) Yooper should get them into his grubby hands in a week's time or so.

;)

And, for those of you who learn visually:

Huh... I thought the HZJ79 had a different birfield than the 80 series?

I went around and around on this with a few HZJ79 owners, and finally just swapped in locked 80 series axles (problem solved!).

It does. The 80 series birf that everyone is familiar with is the 246.5mm length birf (43405-60070). This is also the same length as the full time 105 series rigs and the full time 7x series rigs but with a different part number: 43405-60100 (which is why converting the 105/7x series rigs is a hassle too).

The part time 105 series and later 7x series use 43405-60120 birfs (which happens to be the same birf as the non-ABS 1991-1992 FJ80's).

A lot of this is drilling through level after level of part numbers and supersessions and applicable markets, etc. The information above has taken me a **long** time to coalate since I made the PT conversion on my rig and wanted all of the correct non-US parts.

:)

wow, nice sleuthing.
So, to be sure...
80 series (late ones? 1995-1997?) had a 246.5mm birf.
Earlier 80 series had a 238.5mm that is identical to 105 and later 7x series (that used a high pinion diff).

So... does (edit) the 80 series (edit) 1991-1992 birf differ from a 1993-1994 birf?

the north american 93- early94 80 series birf has a removable abs ring. otherwise it is identical to the 91-92 birf.
