I'm going to wash all the shipping goo off today, looks like it went through a bug storm somewhere, my guess is Iowa. Lot's of dried hard bug guts crust. I'll take some pics when it's clean. Check this detail out though, pretty cool:

Encountered the first obstacle on the shakedown run to my cabin to check for storm damage. We had a big wind and rain storm Thursday night, lots of trees down, power was out at our house here in town for 28 hours. All was well at the cabin except this one tree down across the road.

Welcome to the 79 club

thanks

Hey Clint do you have an EWD or at least a fusebox diagram? I need to change the way they stereo is wired....

Spent some time with the truck today checking stuff out. Didn't take many pics and then it started getting dark. Got a couple at the last minute.

Nice nice 79 truck:D!
Aren't you using any free wheel hub??

I was supposed to...a few details were overlooked during the long build, during which the shop was acquired by new owners and expanded to two locations, with some people moving to the new shop and a bunch of new hires happening.

Did you shift forward the gearbox mount to suit the H55f box?
Isn't the factory X member fit for H55f? Why fabricate another one?

That's a question for Proffitt's; we discussed it but I forget the details. It has an early model 79 series North American mine truck full time 4WD chassis, now a selectable transfer case, and a 2010 Saudi Arabian body and there were some fitment issues.

ummm, the 79 series came with the R151 not the H55F. they could have used a cross member and mounting brackets from a 75 series easy enough ... if there was one available. bolt to the tranny, locate to the frame, weld on the support brackets, done.

but

if the custom one works then excellent.

I thought they were r151s?

I figured, thanks. I'm not upset about it, I'm pretty sure I didn't pay for hubs and it's an easy thing to fix. Building a complete truck from scratch over the phone and via email over a year and a half is not the ideal situation, but was pretty much the only way for me.

To be very clear: I am delighted with this truck and would not hesitate to have Proffitt's do another project for me.

EDIT: restated: I am reasonably happy with my truck, no thanks to Proffitt's until beno took over and fixed the myriad of problems caused by the negligence and mismanagement of the shop before he was hired.

I'll be in touch with you or Dan after I discuss a few things with the shop. There are a couple other parts I want. ;)

Morning commute was rough as always.

relating from the business side of your post i know the difficulties of building a custom rig via email and phone. you need to be almost able to read each others minds during the conversation.

all i can hope is that my customers are as understanding and as reasonable as you are.

enjoy :steer:

very pretty truck. congrats on getting it in!

the '79 series axles will need to have the birfield changed to support a freewheeling hub. Yeah, i know... it seems extremely weird. But from the hours of research I did trying to find hubs for this same axle, i'm 99% sure that's the only way. Best bet might be wrecking yards in Oz or ebay in Oz.

Do you have keys for the doors? Do they match the ignition? Trying to figure out what to do there on mine.
That's a complicated build, I'm sure there will be little details here and there that need minor attention. But overall, it looks great.
