No problem getting inspection this morning. They didn't say anything about not having a real muffler. Diesels are safety only in Texas so I paid my $14.50 and was in and out pretty quick.

that's awesome, I'll take it to your guy. I always manage to get dinged.

No muffler, just a straight pipe
I've taken my Jeep Liberty CRD to the Quick Lube, I think that's what it's called, in Oak Hill the past two times with just a straight pipe. It's not load at all so I doubt they even look. I took the 80 to Davis Tire on 290W. Maybe the Spark Arrestor looks like a muffler to them. Who knows how each place does things. My buddy with "the guy" is to afraid to even try his Dodge at a normal place.

I ordered some OME2419 competition springs today. They are front 4" lift springs rated at 300lbs which will replace the 4" Slee mediums I have on now.
Marks gear set for the split case, to get the RPMs down on the highway, is also on the list but they are not cheap. I've talked myself out of buying them everyday this week. Eventually I know I will cave.

That has to be the tidiest 6bt conversion ive seen, looks fantastic under the hood. Sorry if i missed it, but what size exhaust did you go with?
I believe it's 3". I'll have to measure it when I get back home on next week.

Started dismantling the dash today to change out the leaking heater core. I don't think I have ever felt so overwhelmed. Once I got the dash and support beam out I just stared at all that wiring and bags of hardware wondering why I didn't pay someone to do this. I tried my best to bag and label everything. Took plenty of photos, especially of the screws and bolts that are way in the back. I'm going to pull some of the dash on the LX just so I can double check where all the screws and bolts go. So far I am about 3 hours in. I will pull the AC and heater crap tomorrow night and hopefully start putting it back together Friday night. Need to tidy up some wiring and paint all the bare metal while I have everything out as well.

WOW to get to the heater core:eek:

Im without heat if mine ever goes bad. What was Toyota thinking?
I thought real hard about that same thing. The only reason I am tackling it right now is to get the AC working. I didn't want to waste the money to get the new AC charged knowing I had to discharge it to get to the heater core.

AC is a good thing. It just sucks to see your rig down after just getting it on the road.:(

Kudos for you taking this on at a nice time of the year:rolleyes:

Well I made the journey to the heater core. I was only about 15 minutes from getting to it when I stopped yesterday. It was actually one of the pipes that came from the firewall to the heater core that was cracked. Heater core looked good but I will be replacing anyway just because I'm hoping to never do this again. I ordered up some new pipes and hose so looks like I will be down another week or so. It will give me some time to tidy up my wiring and install my front comp springs.

heater core job bites....I'm in process on my 60..dealing with the same thing.

Since the truck will be down for awhile waiting on parts I did some sprucing up of a few things. Painted the metal dash support and put a fresh coat on some of the dash pieces. Taking out the interior as well to clean.

I also put the LX and 80 consoles side by side for a comparison. Besides the obvious stuff the LX is taller and has a spring loaded hinge. I took out the spring hinge and put it on the 80 console so now it pops right open. Nice!

Nice job. When I worked at a toyota dismantling yard I had to do that a lot on pick-ups, 4runners, camrys, corollas, etc. but never had to do an 80. We never had one in to dismantle. After doing tons of dash removals its not as difficult as it seams. Again, great job. More overwhelming when you do it for the first time.
