I'm gonna need to drive this next time I come down there. This one was in your shop this fall, no?
yes that's the one
Good golly a 5.9 cummins is a lot if engine for an 80 but I can appreciate the intention. I had a 2005 dodge diesel and can’t imagine that much power in a land cruiser.
it's just about perfect

I am sure the swap kit will be killer.

IMHO, the 5.9/6.7L is on the heavy side for an 80 series.

That 5.9L has part-breaking torque numbers.

I would love to test a well done Cummins swap and compare it to my L96 swap. Drag race? 😆 My truck is pretty-much a DeltaVS parts billboard.

Too bad 2025 Cruise Moab registration is closed... 😞 otherwise I might have considered driving to Utah.

1FZ-FE 4.5LL96 6.0L5.9L Cummins (2004.5 - 2007)
HP212360325
Torque (lb-ft)285380610
Weight (lbs)5844531150
I get my rebuilt 1fz installed and about to take delivery of the turbo kit from Colorado and now I learn about this common rail 5.9 option! I’ve been driving an 2005 Dodge/Cummins for 20 years and absolutely love it so I’m a bit perplexed with this news. Thanks for the honesty and accuracy of the chart above. A few members here have tried to argue that the Cummins 5.9 weighs 900-950 when I knew it was 1150 as you stated and nearly twice the weight of the 1fz.

What sort of mpg are you guys seeing in your swapped rig?

There are certainly waaaayyyy more reasons these days for the inevitable “honey, I literally HAVE to do these things, the head gasket let go!! I have no choice in the matter.”

And my wife knows when something is up when UPS starts showing up every day or so for a few weeks straight…we have been married for 34 years after all…
Your buddies Cummins swap cost breakdown is what you show her when you find her in tears starring at the FZ turbo kit price breakdown tab you left open.

Bravo guys - I hope to afford one one day 🍻

No turbo or flywheel in this pic, other than that just a few aluminum parts missing, but ain't no way all of that adds up to 300 lbs.

On the 94, only had to add a .75" spacer to the Icon springs up front to bring it back level.

from what I can guess, 1150 lbs is for a complete engine, fully dressed with all the accessories. Source and Source

I was trying to compare fully dressed weights.

I looked up the 5.9L 03-07 block weight and it isn't as heavy as I thought at 271 lbs. Source

For comparison, my L96 6.0L block weighs 216 lbs and 1FZ-FE block weighs about ~175 lbs.

edited post 2 with next bit of info
Excellent...sounds like it will be a very well thought out kit! I was thinking that I had one part sourced already, the early transfer case shift lever, but realize that I have a late '94, so most likely still need to source the early one... :wrench:

You have a 94 with 343 transmission?

In for one. I've been watching Austin St Onge's build in youtube, it seems way to complicated to sort out without alot of prior knowledge.

Mine has the A442f per the vin sticker on the door.
you have the correct selector lever
What’s an estimated cost for this swap? Ball park? Close to buying a new 2500 Cummins truck?
you craycray, no clue until the day it's ready to sell. usually waiting on invoice for powdercoating before knowing actual costs. it won't be cheap by any means. loooooooots of work, probably sell 10 kits or something.
There's at least a couple of shops manufacturing billet aluminum 5.9 Cummins blocks out there. I'm not sure what the weight difference is, but it has to be in the hundreds. Also $$$$.
ya, insane-o dollars for those! and usually lose the ability for water cooling.

I’m just trying to see what to expect. Obviously depends on if you do the install yourself and how much a donor drivetrain costs. We talking $50k+ right?

I see people jumping in here “I’m in” and stuff as if we are talking about a set of radius arms lol.

That's no good. I guess they're just after the drag racing and sled pulling crowd.
Yes, exactly. Might be one that has water jackets but am not sure. Have only every seen an aluminum block put to use one the track, so no reason to go through the trouble of cooling it.

Ya, don't even have a ball park yet, going to be a bit before can even get that figured out.

I am hoping the cost is high so I can further justify the cost of my LS Swap to my wife.. 😆

The little stuff adds up: wiring, sensors, adapters, hoses, accelerator pedal mount, exhaust, radiator, etc. Just look at that list in post #2

Even with that extensive list, I didn't see the conversion parts needed to convert to a manual transmission, if using a NV4500.

Some of the things, like the hydroboost mount plate, might have more interest outside a Cummins swap. I know I would be interested. Marks4WD sells one but only for diesel 80s.

Ya, those are some of the parts I forgot! Clutch bracket is NLA so we are making those, or one could get them used from UAE/south america/etc.

Hydroboost plate is definitely a standalone product that will be on the site in the near future.
