CUSTOMER INSTALL - FJ 40
We import Terrain Tamer suspensions based upon demand. Reports have been good, including 40, 60, 70 and 80 Series. Kits are ordered from Australia based upon individual demand and ship by sea, so patience is a good thing
The first customer sale was almost a year ago for a 40 Series. Here is Erik Howe's write-up and some shapshots. The beautiful scenery is in north central Washington State.
Thanks, Erik!
"This is long overdue. I have been meaning to let all you MUDders my experience with Terrain Tamer and the folks at Cruiser Brothers. I had been researching for some time what lift kit to put on my ’76 FJ40. I had somewhat settled in on OME. Then I stumbled across Terrain Tamer. I was quickly impressed by what appeared to be a very similar quality product for less cost than OME. I had found a few reviews on MUD that seemingly shared my same impressions."
"I was ultimately put in contact with the American importer for Terrain Tamer.I can’t say enough good things about Ward Harris and Georg at Cruiser Brothers. These guys were top notch and went out of their way to see that I was getting the right product. I did have to be a little patient as the parts were coming from Australia, but it was worth it. There was one little hiccup with the order (that really wasn’t their fault) and they quickly offered to do whatever was needed to make sure I was happy. I was."
"The install went quite smooth (other than removing some of the old nuts and bolts that were nearly fused together). I had everything put together in one Saturday by myself. BTW, I am definitely not a mechanic. I enjoy tinkering around but every project I do is new to me."
"Ride quality is definitely better than what I was used to on the stock leafs and shocks. I can’t compare it to the OME as I have never been in a cruiser running an OME lift kit. The kit I put on was their SK015 lift kit, which provided about a 2-inch lift. I didn’t think this would cause any issues with the drive line but after all was done, I was experiencing a fair amount of wobble at about 45mph running 33”x12.5” tires. Most likely a combination of lift and tires. I ended up putting on a couple of 4 degree caster shims and now it rides great at 60+mph."
