In my 4x4australia magazine, there's an article stating a recall on specific Cooper S/T tires 285 75 16s. The owners of the specific serial # range is to call Cooper for free replacements. I'm not sure if this applicable in the U.S. but just a FYI.

What is the recommended pressure on the 285 STTs? I am sitting at 40 psi right now.

Thanks,

uzj100

Holy crap you guys... that's a lot of air! I run approx 38 psi on the street and 12 psi on the trail with my 315 Toyo MT's. I would run even lower psi on the trail, but I need beadlocks first. I'm thinking around 8 psi would be ideal.

I just ran into an deal that I can get 4 Toyo 37x13.50's with about 40-50% tread for pretty cheap.
Does anyone know how these tires do toward the bottom of the tread life? Is it worth it to buy these for wheeling or should I spend a whole lot more and get new ones?

Thanks Bajataco, I was one of the ones who bugged you by emal for an update on your STTs. I picked mine up a few days ago, they seem quieter than the MT/Rs I had on my last LC 80, and a little louder than the "street" tires I just had on my LX, they don't bother me at all.

More pictures/info on my tires HERE.

Looks like there are a few of us running the STT now. I got mine a couple of weeks back. I am also running mine at 40 psi on the street. The tire shop had them aired up to 45 psi, which was pretty high for my taste. The great thing is that I am still averaging 15.5 mpg, very close to the 15.9 mpg that I was getting with the stock LTX tire.

I'm thinking these tires will be my next set, they're sounding better and better all the time.

Only problem is, I have to wait till my almost-new BFG A/T's wear down, which could be a decade from what I understand.

Andrew,

I had really thought about getting the BFG AT, but knew that if I did I would have them for a real long time before being able to justify buying new tires. I got a pretty good deal on the STT and in the end they were a few bucks more than the BFGs. How long were you in CO on your last trip? Do any hunting out in KS?

I really really like the looks and the reviews of this tire. All you guys running them please keep us all updated as you wear/wheel them. I have narrowed my next set down to these, trxus mts, Mickey Thompson MTZs or Maxxis Bighorn. I live in SoCal and need a tire for snow, desert, rocks, etc. Please talk me into one the previous mentioned (I don't care if you are bias towards the STT's, just talk me into them) I will need some new tires early next year and look forward to narrowing it down by then. I will also be installing these on some black rock crawlers....can't wait.

Hey Guys,

Can somebody who is running this tire and has over 5k miles on them tell me how often they are rotating them and what PSI they are running? Thanks!

We just put a set of these on my buddy's Jeep. This was for a suspension install story in 4Wheel Drive & Sport Utility Magazine. I must say these tires look to be the ticket. Here are some flex shots of them in the rocks with 10 PSI on a TJ.

I wonder how they compare with the Toyo MT's and the MTR's on road and in mud, snow, rocks, overall durability etc.

Well they are easier to find and cheaper than the Toyos. I would think they are pretty close if not equal to the MTR. I got mine for 168.00 per tire so that was good enough for me.

Anybody have any comment on 5k rotations with a tire like this?

The price is certainly attractive but I would rather spend more and get a better tire (if the Toyo is better). I also like the fact that the Toyo is wider although I know some members like narrower tires I don't.

Anyone that is running this tire in a 35 or 37" please give your opinion of it both on an off road and if it appears to be durable in the rocks and how it handles mud and snow.

I'm running these in 315's. I've only had a chance to wheel them twice before tearing into my gears. It'll be a few more weeks before I wheel again.
I can tell you they grip the Southern AZ rocks like a mofo. I rarely ever see mud around here and what is this thing you call "snow".:D
They are noisy on the street, but whatever, I didn't get them for their street manners. Haven't had them on the freeway yet either.

That's good to hear. Keep us informed on how you like them.

Oh, and snow is something that happens when water molecules are subjected to ambient temperatures below 32 degrees and it turns from a liquid to a solid and falls from the sky. But you wont see any where you are. So drive a few hundered miles into the mountains, test em out in the white stuff and let me know how they do!

The other day having a screw removed from my lousy street tires I decided to price out some BFG MT's and the guys kept telling me I should get these Discovery STT's and BFG you just pay for the name. But from what I have heard from friends I trust and others on here you also pay for a quieter street ride and they last almost too long.
Being as my rig is a DD I think I want the quietest Mud's I can get and will pay an extra $30 dollars per tire.

My STTs are quieter than my MTRs were, and a little louder than the street tires that were on it.

Can anybody comment on 5K rotations with the STT????

Haven't made it that far yet. I have 5 of them and plan on actually rotating all of them on a regular basis.
