So it looks like a 255/85/16 would be a little skinnier but not sure if Cooper makes this size. So I may have to switch to BFG.
*Update* Cooper does not make this size in the STT but do in the ST.

From the Tall and skinnys tire thread in Expedition Forum - See Below:

"Left to right they are: a 33x10.5r15, a 285/75/16, and a 255/85/16. Each of these tires are BFG m/t km. Tread patch width unmounted is: 8.25", 8.75", and 8". The 255 is tallest, but it has the deepest tread remaining. So not as big of a difference as one might expect from the nominal dimensions.

Best tires i've ever have

So after 6 years and 1 month and around 50,000 miles my Coopers are going to be retired. I did want to go taller and skinnier now that I have the 2" lift with 255/85/16's but a great deal on 315/75/16 BFG KM2's came up and I jumped on them. Now that my rig is not a daily driver and just on duty for trips it doesn't make much sense for me to buy new again when I can go uses for half the price.

I will add photos of the Coopers a little later today to show how they are looking now and a few lugs that are missing and about to be missing.

11,000 mile update:

32x11.5x15 on a heavy GVW Toyota Tacoma Xcab.

They are wearing evenly. I have rotated them once so far. The sidewalls and treads have held up really well considering the abuse I have subjected them to. No major chunking or loss of lugs. I just checked and am surprised to find out that with 11,000 miles, the current tread depth is at 12/32" (67% of usable). At this rate, the tires will wear out before I get 20,000 miles on them. And considering that I usually replace tires at 50%, they may only see a few more thousand miles on my truck. Granted, the percentage of miles in the dirt and in 4wd for my truck is very high (no daily commutes and lots of overland trips) but that is pretty dissapointing and will make this a very expensive set of tires. So my opinion as of today - is that they are great tires if you can afford the short lifespan.

If you think your tires are wearing abnormally fast, your air pressure maybe low.

The guideline I follow is to compare the cold morning pressure to the highway operating temperature and if it goes up more than 10% you might have too little air. This is caused by excessive tire flexing and heat -- which expands the compressed air.

Although counterintuitive, the solution is to add air and repeat the test until the cold to hot operating pressure goes up by no more than 10% or so. I got this information off the Mud board and makes sense to me. Under inflation causes excessive heat .

Placed STT on my 88. Love them, but want to go bigger. I currently have 32 11.5 with no lift. Want to go to a 33 12.5. Concerned about rubbing and regearing. Live in desert so most off roading is soft sand and hills. Any thoughts?

S/T

I have the Cooper Discoverer S/T (not STT) on my 94 FZJ 80 in the 255/85 16's. I like them a lot, have had them since early 2012. They have not seen snow yet but have performed well otherwise.

Seem to be wearing nicely and I bought 5 so I could rotate the spare in. Road noise is minimal but certainly hum more than an A/T tire.

Best thing about them is they are made in the USA. Run Coopers on our Subaru Outbacks too and they are very nice riding and quiet passenger car tires.

After doing a bunch of research, bought a set of 305/70/16 STTs to replace a set of worn BFG ATs on my LX, and couldn't believe how QUIET they are on the highway - quieter than the ATs, in fact.

They've performed better than the MT km2s on my Jimmy in snow and ice pounding we've had in Chicago this winter, and I've hit quite a few of the city's famous 8 inch potholes at 30-50 miles per hour and nary a chunk has gone missing.
