Searched (found conflicting answers) for a while and cannot use my own Tie Rod for measurement because it is bent. What is the total length of just the tie rod (without tie rod ends) for a 73 FJ40? Just need tip to tip where the threads start. Is it 42.5" or 42 7/16"

You have custom chit so who knows? Plus, that's only 1/16 inch worth of difference. I'll bet that is within the manufacturing tolerance. I may have an old FJ40 tie rod-I'll look today and if I can find it, it's yours. Also, I gave one to D'Animal, ask him if he still has it.
Wait am minute, who said anything about welding a TRE to a rod? My comment was a quick reply to Eddy. I am not welding the Tie Rod Ends into the schedule 40. READ BELOW!!!!
I am not doing anyting that hasn't been done before. I am using Schedule 40 and will either sleeve the entire tie rod, if I can straighten it enough, or rossett weld the ends of the tie rod (threaded bungs) into the schedule 40 and then screw in the the TREs. THE TRES will not be welded to anything. It was just read wrong.
Lets not jump to the OH MY GOD HE IS DOING WHAT!?????
What is wrong with using threaded tube inserts? Most folks in the desert racing world make tie rods this way that see some brutal abuse. I am curious where you sourced metric tube inserts though!
You definately won't find them at a parts store, 17mm, 21mm, 23mm all 1.5 pitch
Isn't schedule 40 a bit light duty
even if you use 1.5" schedule 40 it only has a .145 wall thickness, 1 1/4" has a .140 thickness, not much better than stock
Do a minimum of .219 wall DOM
