How much did seats cost?
I think about $350-400 from the local junkyard. They originally wanted more because they're airbag seats but the guy gave me a Christmas deal

I need to upgrade my front seats. They feel good for a while, but after 12 hours or so, they start to hurt all over - thighs, hips, butt, ribs, back, neck....

First and foremost, I need to go lower, and higher is completely out of the question (and it appears most of these swaps resulted in the seat being an inch higher). The most comfortable factory car seat I've ever sat on were those in ~2013 Ford Fusions. I bet they could be had cheap, but who knows whether they'd fit?

What seat/bracket combos are confirmed to lower the seat base?

Almost no oem seats will be lower than what’s already in the truck. You will have to go aftermarket such as schlee man or recaro and that gets pricey fast.

I went and looked at my favorite car seat of all time today - the 13-20 Ford Fusion - and I think it will work. It's very tall as-is, but it's all air underneath, standing on long stilts. I think it could be chopped off and welded to the Corbeau brackets that come with their own sliders. Overall width is good - we have ~23" to play with, and these measured 20-9/16" at the widest part of the base.

I'm kicking myself, though, because I forgot to measure the slider width, so I'm going to have to go do it all over again. :bang:

Today I went and bought the PS Fusion seat. The DS was power, and as such couldn't be moved forward to remove, plus it looks like the motor is all the way down between the rails, so it might not be a candidate. I'm going to get some better measurements and maybe do some chopping to see if it works. There were two guys pulling the manual seats out of the other Fusion at the same time.

Looking good so far... the stock seat measures about 4.5" at the back. After subtracting the height of the bolster, the Fusion seat is only about 4" in the same area.

Does anyone here actually own the Corbeau brackets? I contacted them for dimensions, but they're not specific enough to really help. The height of that bracket will make or break whether this seat will work.

Does anyone have the width of the Planted bracket? I got a steal on manual heated seats out of a 2011 Jetta and I don't really have fab skills so I expect my easiest course here will be Planteds and steel plates, just hoping to do some drawing and planning before I order the brackets

Edit: forgot to mention that these rails are 21" wide

We hear alot about the Scheel-Mann seats, but has anyone given a go at the Huracan Premium Touring Seats? I have found zero reviews of them and curious if anyone is running them yet?

How about a quick text impression--what do you think and how big (or small) are you? I'm having trouble finding anything about these that's not from the mfr or a reseller. I mean, nothing... Which is really odd. Google shows zero hits when I include the word 'review'

Well ..

I'm 6'2" 190 lbs ..

They feel just right .. I got mine with lumbar support ( main reason for the update ) and I'm happy .. not " very " happy coz they are hot .. compared to the factory " cloth " ones which are very fresh IMHO ..

Well, that's blaming leather for being leather. :) Any long trips with them yet, to assess comfort?

Took them in a short about 800 mile trip and they are super cool .. they hold you right, material is ( so far ) good other than bein not breathable .. they are perfect for the price tag ..

I know this may seem a bit radical, but has anyone ever tried installing actual later-year Land Cruiser seats, in their 80...?

Yes, I looked at putting 105 series seat in mine.
The width of rails, the width of the seat base was a problem. Too much needed to be altered to make it worthwhile
It was easier to fit Audi seats than to fit 105 series seats.
100, 105, 200 etc are quite a bit wider in the cabin, and driver's compartment, so are the seats

Ah, mystery solved. I did see one Cruiser with the door panels modified--no pockets--to accommodate wider seats. Guy said the install was a real pain.

I’m planning on giving BMW 3 series seats a shot here in a few weeks. If anyone has tried this or has any info it would be greatly appreciated.
Did you wind up going through with this and write it up?

Question from someone who's never swapped seats before...

Since there are aftermarket seat brackets already made to bolt into the 80--why make custom brackets from scratch, instead of attaching your new seat-of-choice (whether that's aftermarket or some other oem) to a Planted or Wedge bracket etc.? Wouldn't it be easier to (for example) make an adapter plate(s) if the holes don't line up? Clue me in here...
