1997 40th Anniversary Toyota FJZ80 Land Cruiser for sale. I haven't seen a cleaner, lower mileage, tastefully modified Cruiser on the market or on the road.

Addendum (10/20/18):
Asking price: $31,900
Miles: 154k, 10k over past 3 years.

Story: Originally purchased in CO by a gentleman in the oil business. Eventually transported to Oklahoma after visiting Slee Offroad in Golden, CO (modifications below). Over the course of 19 years the truck was lightly driven and, to my knowledge, ever taken off road. The truck was sold to a Toyota dealer in Texas in 2017 where an employee took it home. He rarely drove it and ended up selling it to me to make room for a new SUV. The truck is now for sale because it doesn't fit in my new garage (need 6'10" clearance). Since purchasing the vehicle in early 2018 I changed the oil, balanced the wheels/tires, and had the truck inspected for mechanical faults of which none were found. As you will see in the photographs and maintenance records below, this truck was extremely well cared for and should drive for thousands of miles to come.

Headliner is tight, leather is in excellent shape, dash is amazing with no cracks in leather. Every switch and knob works perfectly, and all dash lights function properly.

I'm actually looking for an 80 right now. I sold my last 100 on here in September so there goes the theory everyone making comments aren't even looking to buy. You can always post on craigslist, ebay, or auto trader and you never have to worry about negative comments but when you post on a public forum, you're going to get feedback, good and bad. That may hurt some sellers but it also helps some new Cruiser buyers. If I were looking for my first Cruiser and I saw the comments about the price, I would be thankful because there's no KBB for a modded 1997 Land Cruiser. It's called keeping people honest and in some cases, educated. A lot of sellers ask what others think about the price, some don't want to know.

I'm pretty sure nobody questioned the legitimacy of the invoice. Just pointed out that the extent of the seller's knowledge of the build at Slee, was some paperwork. He never met that owner (per his statement, carfax etc.). The seller was also asked multiple times about lockers...did he ever answer? Questions about the motor work and head gasket? That really got him going.

This poor "newcomer" didn't contribute - not even a measley star, but merely joined to post his truck (flip or not). If the mods wanted it free of chatter and only from interested parties, they could have it that way. If you really read through all that and can say the seller was nothing but sweet, courteous and just trying to sell THE finest 80 to a smart buyer - I think you missed a whole lot of animosity from that gentlemen. A mud member was surprised about the location of a pic near a Veterans park he knows the area, seller gets butt-hurt and goes political (??), twice. Others (including yourself) point out his pricing. Again, he came back aggressively, not receptively. His entire tone went negative, quicklike . Id be careful who you label as saints and sinners around here.

You seem to be throwing a lot of stones in this glass house. You have 3 80's, are an expert and have hundreds posts (all contributory, none were after parts right?). You are right that not everyone has "two nickels" to rub together. Too bad they can't be banned from the classifieds. But what if maybe they saw one of your sweet rigs on the road, got that good old fashion feeling and said "I want one of those bad boys". In a perfect world, Joe "the one nickel" plumber finds Mud, does some reading, asks some questions and avoids some $35K CL trap. Maybe B&B helps find him a $700 cream puff.

That "mud = community = protection" door swings both ways man. All aboard for capitalism, just leave the hypocrisy back with your first post.

didn't understand this portion ... "have hundreds posts (all contributory, none were after parts right?)" I don't have hundreds of post. Quality over quantity ... and always very respectful of sellers and those who are offer instruction, experience, etc..

As for this post, overall, 40% worthwhile ... 60% a waste of time. The new guy was attacked for being new. Attacked for where he parked his rigs for photos?? Attacked for sharing his Slee invoice ... who gives a flying f---. I have Slee invoices. If I had perfect knowledge of what was on my invoice I'd have done the work myself. I knew very little when I bought my first cruiser ($6,700)... I just knew I always wanted one and this cheap, poorly maintained, sun-scorched rig was all I could afford. I also knew it would still be indestructible! Mud was a great resource for tech and general knowledge. For vendors and parts. But the marketplace is rife with those whose tech knowledge is too often limitec to requesting under carriage photos and crfeating their own quasi/pseudo secondary market in the vehicles. Plus, my post got a far more likes than criticism. i am not in the minority here. Until now, I didn't even realize one could like a post.

Finally, I just bought the Amazon Green 200-series on MUD. The marketplace does work - especially for modded rigs - but the worthless bashing of newbies isn't helpful. They are our future buyers. I was a newbie and just bought my 4th rig here. On the other hand, the "hey ... look ... squirrel" peanut gallery is entertain and can take any post far, far off course ... but they are typically educational and NOT in the classified.

Flipper hasn't been able to find a sucker buyer for this rig over the past seven months, so he raised the price.

Bumping for the lulz.

I'm one of the idiots that paid about 5k too much. Got over anxious, it is what it is. But I will say that this is a very nice looking rig. And I would agree worth above average pricing. GLWS.

It's got a lot of super standard mods, and maybe some good service history, but nothing even close to special enough for $32k. I am sure you could find one on here with all that stuff for close to half the price he is asking. And it probably wouldn't be a flipper.

Or how douche keyboard warriors can be. If you don’t like the price move on... quit bumping up the thread and it won’t sell. Who cares if he’s a flipper, why does everyone hate capitalism.
I like this type of non-PC atmosphere on Mud...it helps noobs like myself learn how the 80's are valued and how they work. I just learned learned a lot by reading this classified...GLWS

you can get a 97 Anniversary with 154k with all those mods for $17k ? please send the link
I’ll buy 2

I’ve seen the build list from Slee, one of the previous owners spent $15k on all the armor and preventative maintenance.

The guy selling is not the flipper that’s the guy he bought it from.
I know all about this rig.
I tried to buy it for $28k last year

Done, with lockers for $16k (or less): For Sale - 1997 40th Anniversary Edition with 147K Miles - SOLD

Just a quick gander searching "built" in this classified forum gives many results in the mid-teens from the past couple years with similar miles and mods, some with much more expensive stuff like lockers/regear, engine rebuilds, and aux fuel tanks. The "40th" part doesn't come close to doubling the price.

Then why is the email the same in the Ebay ad as it is in the original post of this thread?

green? with e-lockers? Not the same thing, sage ones bring more money maybe not on mud but in the real world they do

The Sage one was for sale in Oklahoma City, purchased by a used car manager at a Toyota dealer in San Antonio and sold to the guy in Wisconsin who has it for sale now.

no one make a killing on this rig except Slee

With the 17k extra you save you can paint it whatever ridiculous color you want. And factory lockers don't devalue a Cruiser by any stretch.

This is the first time I've seen it suggested that a truck is worth more because it doesn't have lockers.

i’m saying e-lockers are not that big of a deal compared to factory lockers, I’m not talking about functionality just collectibility

Is there a difference? I honestly don't know. I guess I've always thought e-locker and factory locker were used interchangeably when referencing an 80. So the truck that sold for 16k had aftermarket lockers?

They didn't list them in the aftermarket mods, so I am assuming they are the factory lockers, which are e-lockers. 40th with factory lockers is actually a rare combination. Someone figured out how many there are and it was a pretty small number.

That's what I thought. Factory or not, lockers up the value unless you're trying to do a concourse style resto and the truck didn't come with them. In that case I'm guessing it did.

The 80 series is cool and maybe the market will eventually reward that sort of resto, but I have my doubts. It's a nice looking truck but not the way a 40 or 60 is. Most people still buy them to wheel them. Don't get me started on the 200. Great vehicle I'm sure, but they look like a big squared off Highlander these days.

popcorn, I need more popcorn 96 posts of nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK . . . I'll help to get to 100 - how about this: You shouldn't be able to post up a vehicle for sale unless you can get its real name correct - - FJZ80?
