Builds Car souq pickup

I put the 75 on my new Rotary SPOA10 lift yesterday. I struggled a bit with the front arms of the asymmetric lift. The frame curves up right after the transmission support so there isn't really a flat space to lift from. I finally used the truck extensions on the flip up adapters and lifted from the spring perch. The frame isn't flat there either but the spring perch keeps anything from moving. Truck feels rock solid so I assume this configuration is OK.

I am, however, just curious if I'm missing a better lift point for the front arms. These flip up adapters are short or long and can be used flipped up or flat. The truck extensions slide over the long adapters in the flipped up position.

FWIW I used the same truck extensions on my 83 FJ45 Troopy and had no issues.

that is about where I lifted mine as well....

So I need to replace my exhaust tailpipe. The part number is:

17430PIPE ASSY, EXHAUST, TAIL
17405-61360

PartSouq is showing 17405-66060 as a substitute and available. I can't seem to figure out what vehicle that number applies to. I assumed it would be a 79 series pickup but maybe not. The diagram they show is identical to the -61360 so I'm willing to take a chance on it being correct but would be great if someone could confirm.
Not an easy part to source given it's almost 2 meters long. Finally got one though. Given the myriad of spare parts I bought while in Riyadh, I have no idea why I didn't buy a tailpipe.

Got the new exhaust on today. Probably a job that can be done without a lift but the lift made it so easy. Old exhaust is in remarkable shape given that I assume it's the original and, thus almost 29 years old. Looks like one small split on top and 3 pinholes in the back.

FedEx man dropped off a care package this morning. When I replaced the tailpipe assembly I noticed that one of the rubber suspension assemblies was broken. I found that part pretty quickly and about two beers later I had all the remaining parts up to the exhaust manifold ordered.

Got everything installed except for the front section that attaches to the manifold. The manifold studs backed out so I decided to go ahead and get 4 new ones before I finish the installation. My 80 series FSM says to torque the nuts on those studs to 46 ft-lbf. Exhaust looks very similar so I assume that's a good value. It doesn't mention removing those studs and whether or not I should use loctite or something similar when installing said studs.

So, do you guys use anything on manifold exhaust studs to keep them in? Loctite 272 perhaps (high temp, high strength)?

Anyone need some exhaust parts for their FZJ75? Except for the muffler split/small holes the system is very solid. I hate to just toss these parts if someone can use them. Replacements are a pain in the wallet to source.

No loctite necessary, it will quickly rust into place from heat cycling. If you want, put antisieze on the side you want to come loose.
Got it all buttoned up yesterday. FWIW the nuts appear to be a distorted thread, shoulder locknut. Guessing that's why the studs came out.

Torque prevailing nuts
You are not incorrect but that’s a general term for multiple different lock nut designs (two main categories are all metal or plastic infused). The most common all metal design is the distorted thread and since I didn’t see a plastic (generally nylon) ring, I assumed they were distorted thread. But I could be wrong.

Exhaust is done. Also installed new shocks and hardware, Tie-Rod ends, steering damper, and front stabilizer bushings. Seems to drive slightly tighter but that could just be my imagination. I mistakenly ordered the normal rear shocks as I didn't realize there was a heavy suspension shock. Ordered those and they seem to be fine.......probably a bit hard to tell to be honest with 10 leaf rear springs.

Part numbers of both for reference:

48530ABSORBER ASSY, SHOCK, REAR RH
48531-69385MARK 48531-60211
48531-69395MARK 48531-60231, HARD SUSPENSION SPEC OR HEAVY DUTY PACKAGE

Based on that rear leaf stack, I'd think rear shocks won't see much use. :hillbilly:

Hello,

Looking good.

Camels and suspension aside, OEM shocks are good for the rear.

It seems to be the right plate for your truck!

PS. this is my dream too Greg!

Thanks. It's a duplicate of the KSA plate that was on it. I found a place that can/will copy any plate worldwide (or at least the majority of them).

I finally got around to taking the 75 to the detailer I use for a little TLC. I cannot believe the difference. I'm not suggesting it looks brand new but the paint really pops now. I have replacement decals which would really change the appearance but for now I think I'll just stick with the Saudi sun faded originals. Unfortunately I am far, far less than a professional photographer but I took a few pics this morning in the sun and in the shade.
