I guess I'm a little confused. My requests are as follows

I'd like interior pics posted and or sent to me at BaerTrax@BaerTrax.com

By cutting the roof does that (I assume) force you to laying on the floor of the truck? And or is there enough room and structure to lay above the roof separate from the interior of the truck.

Are you doing anything to the aluminum to keep it from weathering, oxidizing and such? My reasoning to ask is because I would want it powder coated to semi match my LX450.

Very serious inquiry here as I'm in the market for a RTT and my rig will start to see brush so the easy set up and lower profile is attractive to me!

Thank you, Josh

Hey Gang, I have been cranking away at a bunch of stuff. New website has full gallery on the front page. scroll across or click any image for a larger view. There are a couple of tops in production and I have 1 spot left at the 20% price, and proto V.2 will be up for sale probably after cruise moab

Nice website, love the product!

On your website under the custom modification vehicle there's a picture shooting from the tailgate up at the camper and there is a picture of the Hawaiian Islands is this a customers vehicle or yours personally.

Sent from my hawn finga using IH8MUD

I was CAMPTEC's first (and totally satisfied) customer, and I have two awning mounts, which Eric fabricated and installed: one on the passenger side for my 6' Hannibal awning, and one on the rear, that I installed, for a cut-down Hannibal awning.

Dealing with Hannibal is not easy, however. But Eric has some ideas on other ways to do an awning or two.

Anyone that would like to contact me about my experience with CAMPTEC, the best way is via email, it's craigreece@PlantDrive.com

What is the weight capacity of the top as a roof rack?

Weight capacity of Camptech top

What is the weight capacity of the top as a roof rack?

I weigh 160# and when I walk on the top, it does not sag - there are 1" x 1" tube aluminum "joists" running the short way about 30" on center, and they make the top very strong. Last summer, I had 4 Pelican #1550 cases on the top, at the very front, filled with spares and camping stuff - probably weighed 40-50# each, and 4 large mesh river-rafting duffles with hose for the onboard hot water shower hose, tarps, etc. - probably another 100# - and when I'd emptied the 8 Sceptre 40L jerry cans of veggie oil into my tank, they went on top too. Never noticed it. Plus I have the two Hannibal awnings attached to the top.

I used to have a Hannibal rack with an AutoHome Columbus RTT on it, which completely filled the footprint of the Hannibal rack, and while it was a great setup, I think that the totally unexpected killer app. for the Camptec top is the utility of having the ability to carry stuff on the top.

Pictures!!

That sounds like very good carrying capacity. I have an African Outback rack right now and I must say it is very solid. I like the low profile of my rack now as it sits about the same height as the Campteq tent. Adding a rooftop tent to my rack would make it significantly higher than Campteq. I do from time to time carry lumber on my roof rack for work so I was curious of the carrying ability.

Some questions for Eric or Craig or anyone else who has experienced these first hand:

1. Is condensation on the inside of the roof an issue? I know hard shell roof tents usually have some fabric headliner glued up there. Should be simple to add I guess...

2. Is there any way to put the latches that hold the roof closed on the inside? Or do they at least lock with a key on the outside? Otherwise it would be pretty easy for someone to pop the roof and access the entire vehicle...

3. Solar panels + surfboards or canoe... I'm thinking 2 simple cross bars (could be aluminum tubes, or Yakima racks) elevated a few inches above said solar panels. So when you get to your destination and remove the canoe, the solar panels are exposed to the sky.

4. Low-profile modification. Ok this is a fairly major change. I really like the idea of keeping my entire truck under 7' (without luggage on top) so it will fit in at least some underground parking garages (and my own garage at home). Since the roof cutaway is optional, the floor of the mattress is high enough to sit on the truck's roof. I'm thinking, could there be brackets that hang down a couple inches into the truck and hold the mattress lower? This would make the cutaway mandatory, but it would allow the lid of the unit to be much thinner, like the original prototype.

The green full chop 80 is mine and I have thought about lowering the bed below the factory roof line. The bed sits only 20mm above the roof so it is marginal gain in sleeping space vs headroom vs overall bed width.

Internal latches are an option, as well as locks.

After using the new hardware for a bit I will switch my personal vehicle to an internal clamp system and then I will finish the internal headliner trim.

I'm just excited as I was to see the 1st prototype

Solar panel and boards is not a problem without adding a raised crossbar. I haven't tried any canoes plus space for a panel. A semi permanent cross bar would be an option using some of Mac's threaded studs

I'm not positive about the roof capacity. I have had 4 mounted wheels and tires stacked 2 high and driven some trails that require lockers with the slightest chance of rain in the forecast. Everything held up. I have some welded and some drilled anchor points on my roof and I don't hesitate to use it like a flat bed whenever needed.

"moisture management" is a condition that all compact campers will deal with. I have some 3/4 insulation board that I will work with. Trimming are always possible...
