Some questions for Eric or Craig or anyone else who has experienced these first hand:

3. Solar panels + surfboards or canoe... I'm thinking 2 simple cross bars (could be aluminum tubes, or Yakima racks) elevated a few inches above said solar panels. So when you get to your destination and remove the canoe, the solar panels are exposed to the sky.

4. Low-profile modification. Ok this is a fairly major change. I really like the idea of keeping my entire truck under 7' (without luggage on top) so it will fit in at least some underground parking garages (and my owgarage at home). Since the roof cutaway is optional, the floor of the mattress is high enough to sit on the truck's roof. I'm thinking, could there be brackets that hang down a couple inches into the truck and hold the mattress lower? This would make the cutaway mandatory, but it would allow the lid of the unit to be much thinner, like the original prototype.

When I can afford it, I'll buy a Ganz GSP-55 55W flexible solar panel and install it toward the rear of the Campteq top. They're so thin - less than 1/4" - that it will be well below the top of the Mac's TieDowns lashing rails Eric welded to my top (and which I use in lieu of a roof rack.) Using the threaded studs that Mac's sells - and which Eric posted a photo of, you could easily fab up some square tube crossbars and be way lower than you'd be with Yakima or Thule bars for kayaks or a canoe - and remove the bars more easily than Yaks or Thule's.

As far as the height - one of the first things I did after Eric and I cut the roof (took about an hour, BTW) and installed the top in Flagstaff was to drive to downtown Flag and zip into the underground garage in old town - where I could never venture with my AutoHome Columbus on a Hannibal rack.

My truck has 33" tires (BFG AT's, LT 2345/75 R16) and a 2-1/2" OME's all around. The distance to the top of my Campteq top - to the top of the Mac's rails - is 81"

Another 80 with the same tire/spring combo might sit a bit higher, since my truck weighs, fully-laden, about 8200#, believe it or not. I've got a 45 gallon stainless WVO tank where my spare used to live, the spare on a Kaymar rear bumper's swingaway, a 32 gallon stainless water tank on a 2nd swingaway, an ARB fridge, slide-out stainless table, 4 heavy Pelican 1550 cases with tools, spares and camp kitchen, and another 40 gallons of WVO in 8 - 5-gallon Sceptre Nato cans in a compartment where the rear seats used to be.

Would it be possible to put a 42" light bar? I'm saving for a rack and tent but for few more $ this might be the ticket but I do like to have a light from the top.

Crisco,

I have been watching this. I love it and want one so much, but children and finances dictate otherwise.
I also really dig the 16" steelies; spacers? 285s?

Love it... perfect for 1-4 people right? I could see putting 2 adults kids up and 2 adults kids down snugly for sleeping.

i keep going back and forth between this and some sort of autohome. i want this, because....this.

the autohome is cheaper.

but i want this.

does anyone use one of these with the roof still intact? (access via sunroof)

I can't remember if this has been answered before, but is one of these made for a 60 series? Thx!

Crap! Was planning on pulling the trigger for one when funds became available. You snooze you loose.

Maybe you should contact the manufacturer directly and talk to him rather than receiving news from the grape vine.

Very true, I sent an email first thing and left a voice today.

Fj ranger, curious what you may have heard back? Any update from the source?
