Hoping to get some feedback from smart people here. Called AA to ask if their intermediate bearing (between adapter and tcase) can run dry. They said yes. Seems odd no?

if done per their instructions the 2wd 6l80 gets its rear holes plugged and a seal around the shaft like the 4wd version. So no trans fluid in the adapter. There is also a double lip seal after the adapter and bearing that seals the Tcase. So I. Theory no fluid of any kind.

Do pack it with grease??

if you packed it with grease i feel like it would just spin out. Sealed would be the move. I see you have found yourself in the twilight zone of Advance adapters well thought out and suuuper helpful accurate instructions.
Bro I called AA twice, and both "experts" were confused and ended it with "dry should be fine".....

They wouldnt even really talk to me about anything for the 4l60e kit the guy just said we dont really do troubleshooting hah

Mine was the unsealed, as that was what came in my kit. Buuuuut now that I have it broken down I might switch it out, as I'll take @TRAIL TAILOR 's insights to the bank.

weird! i used the same adapter kit as you but mine came with a sealed one. Mine was an old off the shelf one though. had to do what i could to get one during covid while they were sold out

the machined parts are so simple tool, it’s insane there isn’t competition….

anyway Im going to call them and see if they will swap or sell me the sealed, if not I’ll find an equivalent koyo or timken

While youre bearing shopping, go ahead and pull the bearing from your AC tensioner and replace it with with a Timken. Idc if its a brand new AC delco. The bearing in it will last about 3 months before it squeaks. The Nachi one squeaks after about a year. So far so good on the timken. Nothing worse than finishing your LS swap and your ac tensioner squacks at you.

Im not sure if your motor shares the same ac tensioner as the Gen3, but if it does I can just mail you one for the free. I stocked up lol. The one on the gen 3 has a bearing code 6001-2RS.

Worse directions ever... That's so "your interpretation" VOIDS any warranty on their end.

Sounds good I’ll take a look today!
Open bearings like that need lubrication. Running dry will cause it to wear out. Run the sealed version or you'll have it apart again in the future to fix it.
Yup, my spidey senses were tingling and it didn’t feel right
Call me I'll get you a sealed one.
👍

Thanks to all for the help, it’s massively appreciated.

While we wait for the right bearing I 3d printed an adapter for the output shaft seal since it was a royal pain in the ass. 5 min of modeling and 90 min of printing, nice tool to have. Freeze plugs installed also

Also figured I would practice some welding, since I hope this motor will be installed permanently this holiday break….. we shall see

Remember kids, when 3d printing, perimeter thickness trumps fill % every time.

Ran to the emissions shop, dude would even test it (don’t blame him). Engine is a bit smoky and smells. I think a V8 swap is sooner that I think

Lastly, I have been using a tracker app for tracking my progress. Trello breaking up all the stuff into sections. Seems to work well

I did not know a tracker app was available. I have been using excel and cross eyed now
