Hey Mark I heard you joined a cool club recently, rumor has it a couple guys are gear and locker install pros - cuts your $5k to what... $3k? What a bargain.

Man, that would be Awesome!!!! :hillbilly::hillbilly::hillbilly::hillbilly::hillbilly::hillbilly::hillbilly::hillbilly::hillbilly::hillbilly:

In that situation the right wheels having traction could have spun you 90 degrees facing downhill, not good?

I dunno. Maybe. It wasn't that bad... If I'd had full traction, I don't think I'd have ended up as far left as I did...
At this point gears and lockers are beyond the optional stage for me. Doin' em as soon as I can.

We put Timbrens in front, but NO extra bump-stops in the rear because it was determined it wasn't needed. Front bump-stops will certainly come into play at some point, but they aren't that huge...and I'm also gaining a full 1.5" in clearance by going to 35's. If I manage to fully stuff a front tire, I'll try to stop and get a photo...

I'm planning to see the pics from Breck at least! I'm sure you'll find a spot!

I guess it depends on how you intend to wheel. I intent to wheel in a manner that will frequently hang one or two tires in the air...and without lockers, you quickly become helpless unless you can force your non-hanging tire to do the work.

For example:
-The very first trip with my 35's, I got stuck in a position where my two left tires were spinning with ZERO traction...and because of no lockers, my right tires--which DID have traction--sat without turning. -Classic case of where lockers would have been very helpful. Funny thing is...it occurred to NONE of us (ha!!) to engage crawl control!!! -which does its best to mimic lockers by controlling which tire gets driven. Oh well... But ya, if you've ever had your no-traction tires do ALL the spinning while your other two don't even try...lockers become attractive real quick.

As for bang for the buck... I agree that most of us don't really need lockers. But for those who will get their trucks into stuff that needs them, it's worth it. Also... I want to re-gear with 35's...so it makes sense to get lockers in there while tearing into gears already.

I don't disagree, but the traction systems on 13+ are pretty amazing. I'm very used to (and love) lockers, but the system on the 13+ is pretty incredible.

Greg Miller bought a Toyota Dealership in San Diego a year ago. Is that the dealer you went to? He is the son of Larry Milller and use to be the CEO of Larry Miller Corp. He even was on Undercover Boss. He owns the Land Cruiser Heritage Museum in Salt Lake and sponsors and participates in the Expedition team driving 70 series around the world. He has some monster Toyota trucks and is one of the most down to earth guys around. I am guessing that is the dealership you said the Boss may want to buy your truck?

Pray tell which dealership? Sounds like I need to service mine at that shop. Thanks for the heads up

Hey... Going on a mild wheeling trip today, but wondering if there is any specific info/photos some may want to see--Slee bumper, TJM T13, Winch, BP-51's, lighting, 35's etc.

I'd ask you how the lighting is, but - too late, it looks awesome, already ordered a set from STEDI!

Just so youre aware theres Nothing different from 13+ than 08 for traction.
And for gadgets when wheeling Just two more speeds on the crawl and turn assist.

Multi terrain select which I believe is much more tuned and aggressive than earlier 200s, turn assist, front and side cameras...definitely a difference though none is a replacement for true lockers.

cameras...touche ... multiterrain select is crawl with a digital feel good screen
Take an 08 and a 17 and i bet they both fail at the same points and the same with suceeding when traction becomes the issue....nothing more and yes lockers are king

I still have lots to learn about the traction systems in my '17, but I thought Crawl Control and Multi-terrain Select were independent. My 200 is on vacation right now with my son so I can't confirm. The cameras of the Enhanced Multi-terrain Monitor system give me more than a digital feel good screen in tight places; they are very useful even though having nothing to do with traction.

In the situation of having spinning tires, why didn't A-TRAC kick in and brake those wheels ?

Do you mean crawl control? It would have. But what's funny is...crawl didn't even occur to me at the time, as we just winched it. BUT...I was double wedged & I frankly doubt it would have been sufficient anyway. Winched so hard that the anchor vehicle actually began to drag a bit.

No, I mean A-TRAC. My 200 has it and so did my 100. Here's a link to the 100 section FAQs with description of how it works. It seems as though it should have braked the spinning wheels on your 200 in order to apply torque to the wheels with traction in the situation you described. I'm still learning about the 200, but I hope this info applies, because I found A-TRAC awesome on my 100.

The last few trucks I've had were fully locked, and I wanted to wheel my 200 a bit open before I dropped the cash to get ARBs and gears. I haven't wheeled an 08-11 200, but I'm so impressed with the traction control on my 14 I don't think I'll upgrade to lockers. Would it be nice in some cases, absolutely, but unlike tires, sliders, suspension, etc. I don't think the payoff is there relative to the cost. I feel the bang for the buck for sliders and tires is off the charts, but beyond that it's diminishing returns. It's kind of like remodeling your house - if you sink $40k into a kitchen, you'll get that value back 100% or more if you do it right. If you drop $40k into a garage remodel, you're going to have a hard time convincing anyone your house is worth $40k more. You put $5k into tires, suspension and sliders, people see the $5k value, but that same money into lockers and gears (while useful) won't appeal to most in the same way. Of course my opinion comes from a place of never keeping a vehicle longer than 6-12 months, so I choose very carefully where I drop my benjamins - although you'll find most of mine at Slee :)

^^^ Could not agree more with this. But surely you'll keep your 200 around right? I'm a 6-12 month vehicle guy too usually, but I'm committed to my '15 LC as far into the future as I can see.

But now that Mark has 35's, I have to keep up with the Jones' and get 35's too.

FWIW on the 35's: a lot of the trails we've been scoping out for LCDC have some BIG rocks. @kevinfoutch and I rolled through a few on my sxs where I was thinking I would probably not take my LC (and I'm crazy if you've wheeled with me, I will go anywhere.) On those trails though 35's (even vs. 33's) would make a huge difference in clearing obstacles. Of course, Grizzly Lake is a trail that's only for the mentally unstable.

@steenh is right on with my same concerns though with 35's - you do lose articulation, which is one of the LC 200's main party tricks. That rear axle is magic! You also are raising your CoG by that much, and when you're off-camber with a higher CoG and if you have a heavy roof rack...all that stuff adds up.

But these trucks look right at home on 35's, and every mod has a tradeoff doesn't it?
