In that situation the right wheels having traction could have spun you 90 degrees facing downhill, not good?
We put Timbrens in front, but NO extra bump-stops in the rear because it was determined it wasn't needed. Front bump-stops will certainly come into play at some point, but they aren't that huge...and I'm also gaining a full 1.5" in clearance by going to 35's. If I manage to fully stuff a front tire, I'll try to stop and get a photo...
I guess it depends on how you intend to wheel. I intent to wheel in a manner that will frequently hang one or two tires in the air...and without lockers, you quickly become helpless unless you can force your non-hanging tire to do the work.
For example:
-The very first trip with my 35's, I got stuck in a position where my two left tires were spinning with ZERO traction...and because of no lockers, my right tires--which DID have traction--sat without turning. -Classic case of where lockers would have been very helpful. Funny thing is...it occurred to NONE of us (ha!!) to engage crawl control!!! -which does its best to mimic lockers by controlling which tire gets driven. Oh well... But ya, if you've ever had your no-traction tires do ALL the spinning while your other two don't even try...lockers become attractive real quick.
As for bang for the buck... I agree that most of us don't really need lockers. But for those who will get their trucks into stuff that needs them, it's worth it. Also... I want to re-gear with 35's...so it makes sense to get lockers in there while tearing into gears already.
I don't disagree, but the traction systems on 13+ are pretty amazing. I'm very used to (and love) lockers, but the system on the 13+ is pretty incredible.
Hey... Going on a mild wheeling trip today, but wondering if there is any specific info/photos some may want to see--Slee bumper, TJM T13, Winch, BP-51's, lighting, 35's etc.
Just so youre aware theres Nothing different from 13+ than 08 for traction.I don't disagree, but the traction systems on 13+ are pretty amazing. I'm very used to (and love) lockers, but the system on the 13+ is pretty incredible.

And for gadgets when wheeling Just two more speeds on the crawl and turn assist.
Multi terrain select, turn assist, front and side cameras...definitely a difference though none is a replacement for true lockers.
Pray tell which dealership? Sounds like I need to service mine at that shop. Thanks for the heads up
cameras...touche ... multiterrain select is crawl with a digital feel good screen
Take an 08 and a 17 and i bet they both fail at the same points and the same with suceeding when traction becomes the issue....nothing more and yes lockers are king

In the situation of having spinning tires, why didn't A-TRAC kick in and brake those wheels ?
Do you mean crawl control? It would have. But what's funny is...crawl didn't even occur to me at the time, as we just winched it. BUT...I was double wedged & I frankly doubt it would have been sufficient anyway. Winched so hard that the anchor vehicle actually began to drag a bit.
The last few trucks I've had were fully locked, and I wanted to wheel my 200 a bit open before I dropped the cash to get ARBs and gears. I haven't wheeled an 08-11 200, but I'm so impressed with the traction control on my 14 I don't think I'll upgrade to lockers. Would it be nice in some cases, absolutely, but unlike tires, sliders, suspension, etc. I don't think the payoff is there relative to the cost. I feel the bang for the buck for sliders and tires is off the charts, but beyond that it's diminishing returns. It's kind of like remodeling your house - if you sink $40k into a kitchen, you'll get that value back 100% or more if you do it right. If you drop $40k into a garage remodel, you're going to have a hard time convincing anyone your house is worth $40k more. You put $5k into tires, suspension and sliders, people see the $5k value, but that same money into lockers and gears (while useful) won't appeal to most in the same way. Of course my opinion comes from a place of never keeping a vehicle longer than 6-12 months, so I choose very carefully where I drop my benjamins - although you'll find most of mine at Slee![]()
