I don't have the words for how much I f$cking adore quality work that gets covered up!!!!!!!!!! Says so much about the craftsman. You doing cruise moab This year? We are racing at Area BFE on the 19th. If i can pull it off I may stay a few extra days and slide into CM for vendor night
Yes 5 days at Sand Hollow then on to Cruise Moab for 5 more days of wheeling 😜

Hope to see you there !!

I rebuilt my wet rusty flooded winch a while back. I opted for sticky green “waterproof” NLGI 2 grease.

Since I had to remove the bumper to get to the winch out I went ahead a gave it a quick repaint.

The bumper is also 10 years old and has taken a lot of abuse. It has held up well and is still straight 😎

Moved on to the other side

Well getting the winch mounted to the bumper is kicking my A**
I remember it was a pain last time and I did it (10 years ago)with the bumper on sawhorses then Had help putting the two on the truck together.
I’m working by myself so I put the bumper on the truck half way and slid the winch in. The main issue is the bottom of the winch is not threaded it has little openings to slide square nuts in and they fit loosely with no way to really get your hand in there. Then the bottom of the bumper is recessed big enough for the bolts but not for your fingers 😡
I can get everything lined up but the bolts push’s the nuts out of alignment or sideways.
I mess with it for a hour and a half and couldn’t get one bolt in.
Had to walk away, taking a deep breath !
Rant over.
Running out of time before the trip.
Sassy is a great shop dog !!

Do you have some japanese neighbors with “small hands”?

I have used a flat head screw driver and or magnetic tipped retriever tool to hold the nut in position to get the bolt started straight.

Yea I would suggest a stick magnet to help hold and push into place
Or super glue the square nut into place

Ok its all back together, I pull the winch pull the bumper back off and put it up on sawhorses while I waited for my friend Dan to get here he lives 40 minutes away.
Then we worked on it together, ended up getting all new hardware just to make it easier then we put on the truck as a package.
Once it’s all together, it’s a great design high and tight. It’s just getting everything hooked up and bolted up is a pain.
Happy it’s done 😎

Great work, Rich. Is that a blue heeler? I have a red one. He was a rescue, and he's by far my favorite dog. He came to us with that gnarly scar on his head. Looking forward to seeing the pics from your next adventure. Man, I really have to get my cruiser out there!

I had a similar problem mounting mine. Grease holds the little nuts in place fairly well, and I switched to Allen headed bolts so I didn't have to get my fingers in there. Lol.

I'm pleased that the winch is working well, the free spool lever works like butter and I was able to pull the rope out by hand.
The back driveway has enough slope that I can put the rig in neutral and pull it with the winch and get a nice clean tight rap on the drum. re-spooled the 100 feet of rope.
