That is how you weld a truss. Nicely done. And correct!
Right mate! Tell us more..... I see his nice truss job but need to know the intricacies prior to doing my own.

My rear frame side lower control mounts were taking a beating

So I cut away the affected area and made these up. they fit nice down into recessed area.

Bolted in for welding, Then on to some 1/4 plate skids so it won't happen again

I was on my third bent Lower control arm and getting tired of replacing them. You can see my version of a beefed up arm.

They are holding up very well

To beef up the control arm I used a peace of 1/4" wall Dom tubing, filleted it in half with the plasma cutter and welded to the bottom.

I preferred this method because cutting the control arm to sleeve it seemed counterproductive. 1) no worries about getting the alignment of the ends right.
2) No need to press the bushings out and new ones back in. ( I'm cheep ) 3) Only had to buy half as much Dom tubing. 4) I like having a spare on hand and a stock one matches up with these. If you are running custom arms you need a custom spare. ;)
I used a wet rag to keep the bushing from getting to hot, I also welded a little let it cool weld some more repeat to control warping.
I am very happy with the way they are holding up to the abuse they go through.

Then It was another wheeling trip. This time to Sand Hollow. I really like this place!!!!!!!

Well Progress has be painfully slow. Welding in the wheel well panels is proving to be much harder and time consuming then I anticipated. Patience is key I am slowly get there. I know how much I want to cut in the rear and started patching it back up. I added more reinforcement at the back of the rock sliders

And started on the Panels

I want it filled in completely. I did not want to just pie cut itand shove it up, all through it would have been faster and easier.

I also worked on some things that needed to be done to run the new tires. I cut down the rear bumper at the rear tire for more clearance and welded in some bling tube ends. And then repainted

I reworked the tire rack/ camping gear shelf
1581645993599.png
It was easier to just weld new legs on it.

Then started the cutting to make them fit.

Took out the rear spring so I could cycle the suspension to see how much to cut.

I case any ones wondering the new shoes are Battle Born bootlegger 17/9 with 3.5" back space wrapped with Kanati Mud Hugs 39/12.50R 17
The wheels are full bead locks so I had to mount them my self. Theirs no balancing or beads in the tires, but they run super smooth down the road at 70 MPH
I'm impressed so far.

Keep up the good work there brosky… All the PINTA work will be well worth it in the end.

Here is my vid havin fun with brosky. I was just talking all the way up to 2:25 so skip for the fender cutting action... also at the end are some red 50mm Long Travel TourFlex coils.

Nice work with the wheel wells. A lot of the poser rigs around here just simply cut the fenders open and sort of never talk about the fact that they're flapping in the breeze

I'm slowly getting the wheels wells closed in, it's hard to tell but 12.50 tire tuck in so the panels are in side the body a full 2" at the top creating a lip to zero at the sides. I'm using 18gauge sheet metal to do this, making and fitting cardboard templates first to make it all work.
The passenger rear is done just need seam sealer and paint. I know it's not show quality, all about function here.

Started on the drivers side slowly getting better at the sheet metal welding definitely an art to it.
