hahaha. that's exactly why I want the turbo kit. Just for grins and seeing confused faces when you pull right next to them in a fully armored heavy ass cruiser. Then pass by them and have them do a double take and go "WTF did I just see. How in the F*** did that thing go so fast being so heavy."

Once Haltech, 700cc injectors, and their affiliated friends show up to the party I think we'll get race truck-ish when we want to turn up the boost.

This kit is a gateway drug. Moderate boost and EPA friendly today, but tomorrow people are selling their furniture to afford injectors, stand alone, forged bottom ends seeking more and more with wild looks in their eyes.
I'm betting the bottom end will hold up to at least 450-500 hp with stock internals. The 1fze block is very similar to the 2jz and those hold 600-700 rwhp with stock bottom end if it's cared for and not overly abused.
I'm guessing Supra injectors, supra fuel pump, stand alone and boost controller will get some decent results. How reliable it's going to be is anyone's guess. I've been toying with the idea myself. Once you own a turbo yota, you'll always want another.

The 1FZ bottom end has held up to way well north of 500HP.
Nope, but I bet it will let me get to Truckee the entire way in 3rd and 4th gear without having to have it floored in second at 65mph to keep my speed up. Not to mention, not losing 30% of my power at 7000 feet. It will also be nice when towing my dump trailer.
I am guessing the turbo will get us about 275hp/350ft/lb at the crank, but with a nice wide powerband, which will do wonders with the 4 speed auto. I can’t wait.

With this low boost setup, what are your thoughts on having adding boost and afr gauges for monitoring? Any combo gauges you like?

Yeah I always think a boost and AFR gauge are valuable additions as long as people understand what they are seeing. On deceleration you will see lean readings >17:1 don't freak out, at cruise you will see 14.7:1 that is ok, the only thing you need to be concerned with is AFR's under boost. So as long as it isn't causing paralysis via analysis, I think it is a great idea.
As for types of gauges I really don't have a preference. Wide band AFR obviously is preferred, something with a high quality sensor. And boost is just boost.

I posted up a thread on the Banks iDash 1.8 to see if anyone has used it. I wonder if that'd be a good potential gauge that can look at multiple inputs. It's spendy though but it's programmable, updatable, etc Banks iDash 1.8 Digital Gauge
It is a cool guage, but I believe only works with 2008 up OBD2. Also, our OBD2 doesn’t output boost and AFR.

Yeah Cary beat me to it. Our OBDII doesn't include the information you would want to monitor. The 80 series does not have a wideband O2, or ability to monitor positive manifold pressure.
I ran a similar very similar turbo to this kit at 5.8 psi(wastegate) and I got the AEM UEGO wideband gauge and a simple mechanical boost gauge. In my case, since I was using a relatively unproven setup, it was important to confirm my AFR was safe once everything was up and running. It's mainly there just to confirm things are working properly, no need to constantly monitor. But definitely a wise thing to have as it will alert you to any potential anomalies before problems get serious (overboost, underperforming injectors, MAF issues, etc). Not to say any of those are likely, but we have water temp gauges and oil pressure gauges, even though 99.99% of the time everything is working fine.

Other side note. With the Turbo bolted into place I could get more accurate measurements on the oil lines. Turns out the lengths I assumed were ok but left a little too much slack which would have meant the lines would need to be tethered to prevent them from resting against the J-pipes. So I'm having them shortened just a little and adding another 45º fitting to have the hose path be smoother. And I changed my mind about the Insultherm. I went with Firesleeve instead. These hoses are all assembled and ready to go. Oh and on the drain hose I decided against the black sleeving because it added to its rigidity and it was just covered by the firesleeve anyway so I ditched it.

I saw that as well but they gauge has the ability to display AFR ( i think) as well as Pyro, boost and other parameters. It has enough OBD stuff for our rigs, I'd think but who knows. Anyway, just trying to find a single gauge that does everything.
