you guys always talk about the blue or the black hub...
What about the orange and red hubs? Does anyone of you ever heard of it?
This is a list I found... the Toyota dealer in Holland said I should install a orange one with my 1HZ Turbo.
Interesting to know: the 10'000Cst oil is by the way NOT available through Toyota anymore I was told...
I got the blue one with 65ml of about 9000Cst and still not working very strong, although better as before!
Here the list:

16210-17010 [blue = cold zones]
16210-17040 [will be superceeded by #1/blue]
16210-17050 [green = moderate zones]
16210-17070 red/orange for warmer zones (Aisin FCT-030 I THINK)

There aren't many diesels here so, so don't have much experience with them. Agree on the differing clutches for the same application, here the most common is on the Taco, (IIRC, green and orange). One of them is stronger than the other, is sold as the HD unit, for towing, etc. Have tuned both, my observation is; they are the same clutch, just differing tune, likely only fluid viscosity differs.

There are several design differences that will affect performance, most notable shearing area, so without experience on the specific clutch, experimentation is needed to get it right. If you post pix of the inside of the clutch, would have a better idea of a first guess on tune.

Will the fan clutch part numbers listed above for a 1HZ fit on a 1FZFE?

you might have missed my post where I indicated they are the same internally to the blue.

The 1HZ clutch is 6mm taller and has a smaller hole for the alignment dowel that interfaces with the water pump flange.

...

Yep, I saw your post insinuating that all of the diesel clutches are the same as the later blue hub, from looking at one clutch. My experience with them is also a quantity of one deal, but it looked like a black hub inside. I don't feel that I'm an expert at diesel clutches from looking at just one, so took a more measured approach to giving advice.

I don't remember the part number on the brand new clutch sent to me but it was exactly the same internally as the blues we have on the 1FZ. I didn't mean to imply that it was all the clutches that had been used on the diesels over the years. From memory it had an orange hub.

so just a fan clutch question. Has anyone ever tried one of the new Tacoma clutches or taken one apart. I have a Tacoma in the shop today and was noticing how well the clutch was working at idle. I can order one and see how well it fits and looks compared to a blue. If this was covered sorry i read 25 pages last night and tired out lol

Have done several Taco, along with most other Toyota truck clutches and have never seen one with the correct spacing/mounting for the 1FZ. Don't really see the need, when tuned, the 1FZ clutches can be made plenty strong, the early type too strong, hard on belts.

The timing had shifted from 95* to 130* and there was not enough adjustment to come even close to where I wanted it. If you go back and look at the original pics you can see that the plate was adjusted almost to it's limits initially.

Rick,

Do you have any kind of feel for what the engine temps would be at for those two timing temperature extremes?

Is the fan even providing much additional cooling for a 130* timing?

I just got the Aisin blue hub to experiment with. I need to eliminate potential issues. The inside doesn't look like the original post hub. Right now everything is dead center. It's going to be 110-120deg during summer so I need to maximize. I'm going with 20k CST.

maximize this: I put 30K into it :flipoff2:

I did not test 20K versus 30K - I got the FCT-004 off Amazon, filled it with 30K, and it's running in the 80 now - no difference in fuel consumption, and not enough mileage on it to comment on belt life

the LX came with a blue hub (no idea of viscosity of the fill) and it definitely ran hotter then (managed to cut out the A/C a few times in mid-August last year on hillclimbs; the 80 has never cut out on the A/C) - but that's comparing apples and oranges, since the LX lives in AZ with higher outside temperatures than the 80 ever sees in Baton Rouge

Noob question. Do they not come pre filled with oil? Like a factory viscosity? Or is that drained? Just curious as I'm doing a front overhaul and ordered an OEM fan clutch for the replacement "just because I was in there".

It's pre-filled. It's likely the Amazon one comes with 4k CST judging by the part number. But it could be some other thin viscosity. It's a very noticeable difference between the stock stuff and the 20k oil.
