@wngrog curious if you could provide some input regarding the two tent styles in your picture above. Full open style vs hinge style? pros and cons of either?

I like the hinged style because it’s the easiest to deal with. I also like the extra headroom for getting. Dressed in it.

The other one is slightly...slightly harder to close up but that’s splitting hairs.

I’ve had the OME spring pop happening for a few months. I read up on some threads. Tightened the spring capture bolts, Greased it and all but it still kept coming back.

I hit up @FJ60Cam at Mosley Motors and ordered up some new bushings.

Even though I’ve only put 12,000 miles in 10 years on this truck I figured tossing $100 in bushings at it would not hurt.

Turns out they were fine looking (with the shoulders showing) from the outside but once I broke into them they all just crumbled out.

This job is a PITA. 80% of the work a new suspension install takes. I tried doing one end of the spring at a time without loosening the Ubolts but getting the fixed end lined up took me forever so everything but the sway bar got unhooked on the second one.

I had to quit after the front but I am 100% happy I did this.

Should've gone with Energy Suspension bushings that might last longer instead of Oatmeal Eating Maggot bushings (ok so I just made up that acronym but it fits with OEM). I have > 200k miles on my OEM suspension and still like the springs and the ride but the yellow bushings do seem to fail prematurely.

This is something I’ve been waiting for a long time.

3.5 years ago I saved my 100 series from getting sold by ditching the OME shocks and adding Iron Man Pro Foam Cell shocks.

Up until that 100, I had owned many OME shocks and all seemed OK but the 100 series ones that were being sold (and may still be) for the 100 series were brutally rough.

Iron Man Pro Foam Review

Needless to say, I’ve been super happy with them and always wanted some for my 60 series but they never were available.

Well my friend Noel @geologic does not take no for an answer.

After calling the importers of Iron Man in the US and finding that they are not available he contacted www.4wd1.com and got a set of 60 series Iron Man Pro sent direct.

I could not stand it and ordered a set too. They arrived yesterday and I just slapped them on. Between these and the new spring bushings I feel like I’ve got a new truck.

This is not fair to compare these head to head. The OME shock weighs 5# and the Pro weighs 11#

They also have built in bumpstops

Truly awesome upgrade. $800 shipped.

Twice the weight, wow! Good control on road?

It’s not even fair to compare the two really. I’ve never run the non-pro Iron Man foam cell on anything.

This is the second vehicle I’ve gone from OME shocks to the Pro and it’s a stark difference.

I bought the firm ride as I keep this truck pretty loaded down now.

Here is the absolute nastiest RR crossing near my house (inactive track)

First the 60 laughed at it then I did.

For example, same Crossing with brand new OME shocks

$800 for shocks isn’t unreasonable for a heavy weight shock. I also really like that design.

I’m happy with my bilsteins but i wouldn’t rule these out later.

When I put my propane bottle on my swingout it blocks my brake light.

For some reason my flashers in the Kaymar were wired but not the brake light.

I was able to get the small center light to work for a brake light so hopefully that will keep me out of the crosshairs of some small town Barney Fife
