Oilpan

I never thought it would come out this clean.

How did you get the oilpan so clean?

looks like it was hot tanked

Now that I have the fuel lines routed I was thinking about how clean it looked. I've got to run some vaccum hoses. I think I will run then with metal tubing and just use short runs of silicon tubing.
Also going to run some sort of wire loom alongside all of this to hide the wires for temp and the tbi.
hmmm

This thing needs to be clean and gay.

Marshall, when you ordered those plugs, did you have to order individually, or did they come as a pack of 3 ?

I'd say they come as a pack of ten originally:D so just request the required quantity and that's what you will get.

HOLY SHIZZLE!!! Get that motor to West Hollywood!

And ya know what, Marshall? You're makin' me kinda nervous, 'cuz I'm kinda diggin' it.... :princess::doh:

Solid.......no place for oil. Just grease them with assembly lube or anal lube......whatever you have;)

Your not really going to put that motor back in your FJ are you?

It would be better off with a glass top on it and use it as a coffee table in your lounge room, good talking piece.

They do look good when you first rebuild them, its a pitty they don't stay that way.

Good work.

Lets work on some piston ring tech.

The pistons are .040 ITM brand.

First the Deves which everyone reccomends. Cost me 100 dollars from MAF. Swiss made.
Says they are the best they ought to be for that price. The rings I got with the pistons were half that.

See the edge grove in the ring on top. This faces down when installed on the middle grove.

The set made in Japan.

Tool I bought for 10 dollars from Harbor Freight I only used this for the top two rings

Ther are a couple differences in the rings. The Deves set uses an expander ring for the middle ring. It also has a groove on the second ring. The oiler ring also comes with an expander. I really don't know what the advantages of the two sets. Maybe someone will chime in. They both looked like a good quality set.

Now for the install. The Deves instrustions are pretty straight forward on the oiler rings. By Alternating sides where the gap is.

I didn't use the ring expander for these as it just doesn't make sense.

Now this is where I got confused. Where should the gap go for the top two rings? Does it matter. I did them opposite of each other.

SO is this correct for ring placement? Any tricks?

Use the pic below on gap positions..... arrows point to gaps.....left side of motor thrust side......are you using 2 different type rings or just showing comparisons? also something looks strange on that one piston where the oil expander doesn't come together and I don't remember the ends being so crudely cut... Deves is known for their quality workmanship but I believe somethings up here....

I'm somewhat concerned about these Deves rings here Troll.... how bad are those imperfections on the ring side surfaces I have circled in red or is it the camera has them magnified?? and on the oil expander, is one end rounded?? either way on both counts I've never seen such on Deves before..... at this point I would return them and go with the set that came with the pistons.....ITM has been known to include whatever they can get the best deal on at the time on parts (mostly cheap) but what you have there a set of NPR (Nippon) rings, and they are very good also......sorry to butt into your s*** here, but think about it......
