Lets work on some piston ring tech.
The pistons are .040 ITM brand.
First the Deves which everyone reccomends. Cost me 100 dollars from MAF. Swiss made.
Says they are the best they ought to be for that price. The rings I got with the pistons were half that.

See the edge grove in the ring on top. This faces down when installed on the middle grove.
Oiler rings
The set made in Japan.

oiler
Tool I bought for 10 dollars from Harbor Freight I only used this for the top two rings
Ther are a couple differences in the rings. The Deves set uses an expander ring for the middle ring. It also has a groove on the second ring. The oiler ring also comes with an expander. I really don't know what the advantages of the two sets. Maybe someone will chime in. They both looked like a good quality set.
Now for the install. The Deves instrustions are pretty straight forward on the oiler rings. By Alternating sides where the gap is.
I didn't use the ring expander for these as it just doesn't make sense.
Now this is where I got confused. Where should the gap go for the top two rings? Does it matter. I did them opposite of each other.
Expander
SO is this correct for ring placement? Any tricks?
